As an SCI Specialist Therapist, you will play a key role in supporting people with spinal cord injury to build confidence and independence when travelling. You will assess, guide and teach all aspects of mobility requirements related to travel, working primarily as part of the Travel without Barriers project.
You will mentor individuals with spinal cord injury to enable and empower them to plan and undertake journeys. Working closely with SIA’s regional support coordinators, support line team and volunteers you will help strengthen the knowledge, skills and confidence of the spinal cord injury community. Support will be delivered through telephone and email contact, as well as face-to-face visits, providing tailored guidance to individuals and, where appropriate, their families.
The project will also expand SIA’s Travel Hub, developing practical resources such as videos, podcasts and information sheets to support journey planning and travel. You will contribute your specialist expertise and co-create content alongside a freelance content creator.
In addition, you will collaborate with colleagues to design audit frameworks and specialist training for transport providers. This training will equip transport staff to better support customers with spinal cord injury and will be marketed and delivered by the therapists as part of a comprehensive accessibility support package for the transport sector.
