Role Profile: Schools Coordinator (Part-Time) Location: Yorkshire Air Museum, Elvington, York. YO41 4AU Reports to: Collections Officer Contract: Part-time 15 hours per week Salary: £27,300 pro rata, actual £10,920 Working Pattern: Primarily 2 days per week, Thursday and Friday Role Purpose The Schools Coordinator is responsible for developing and coordinating high-quality school engagement at the museum. The role focuses on coordinating and delivering onsite school visits through the volunteer team, managing school bookings, developing new learning opportunities, and ensuring safeguarding and compliance standards are met. Key Responsibilities 1. School Visits & Onsite Delivery • Coordinate and oversee onsite school visits to the museum. • Lead and support volunteers involved in delivering school sessions. • Work collaboratively with museum staff to ensure spaces and resources are prepared for school visits. • Ensure visits run smoothly and meet learning, safeguarding and health and safety standards. • Evaluate visits to maintain high standards. 2. Bookings & Administration • Manage all school visit bookings, enquiries, and communications. • Maintain accurate financial records of visits. 3. Learning Development • Develop self-led school visit resources. • Gather and use feedback from schools to improve learning offers. • Work with colleagues to ensure learning content reflects the museum’s collections and stories. • Develop school holiday based family activities. • Build and maintain positive relationships with local and regional schools. 4. Safeguarding & Compliance • Ensure all school visits comply with safeguarding, health and safety, and museum policies. • Support risk assessments and compliance documentation related to school activity. Person Specification Experience Experience working with schools or young people in an educational, museum or heritage setting. Experience working with volunteers. Experience administering or coordinating group visits, events or programmes. Skills & Knowledge Good interpersonal skills Good administrative and organisational skills Understanding safeguarding and child protection responsibilities. Ability to develop engaging learning materials for school audiences. Interest in aviation, World War Two or museums Desirable: Experience in a museum, heritage, or informal learning environment. Knowledge of the UK primary school curriculum (KS1 – KS2) Experience of learning evaluation and reporting
