Job Title:  SCHOOL NURSE (PART TIME)

Responsible to: Nurse Manager

Main Purpose:  To provide high quality nursing care to pupils at Sedbergh School and Casterton Sedbergh
Prep school.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The duties of the School Nurse will be wide and varied and it is not intended to cover every possible
aspect of the job described here.  It is anticipated that the nurse may be required to cover both
School sites on rotation, where the main responsibilities are:

To ensure that all those attending the Medical Centre have an appropriate and

•
accurate assessment of their health care needs;

•  To  coordinate  and  manage,  with  the  Nurse  Manager,  the  daily  running  of  the

To  liaise  with  and  advise  AHSMs  on  medical  matters  as  necessary  maintaining

Help maintain stock control of first aid equipment / kits for boarding houses and

Help  maintain  stock  of  OTC  medication  for  boarding  houses,  arrange  repeat

medical centre;
Provision of immediate and necessary care to all pupils;
To refer patients on to the Duty GP when appropriate or in his/her absence refer

to appropriate care facility;
•
prescriptions and liaise with parents, Consultants or Pharmacist as necessary;
•
school campus, including the management of AED and Emergency EpiPens;
•
confidentiality at all times;
•
documentation by AHSMs;
•
•
records at all times;
•
and conduct new pupil medicals with the School Medical officer;
•
management plans;
•
immunisation programme with NHS team;

To be familiar with IT systems such as EMIS, iSAMS, CPOMS.
To  be  responsible  for  maintaining  accurate,  contemporaneous  and  confidential

To  assist  in  ensuring  that  all  pupils  with  health  care  needs  have  up  to  date

To assistant the administrative assistant in the collation of new pupil medical forms

To assist the administrative assistant in the coordination of the national childhood

Ensure that iSAMS medical module is up to date for medicine administration and

To  assist  the  administrative  assistant  in  the  coordination  of  annual  cardiac

As part of the on call rota, the nurse may be asked to provide First Aid at sporting

To perform routine procedures such as venepuncture, dressings.
To assist with minor surgical procedures;
To liaise with the Wellbeing Coordinator and conduct mental health assessment

and review as required;
•
events at Senior and Prep School;
•  To contribute towards any audit or inspection that occurs on a regular basis
•  To  work  closely  with  and  establish  good  communication  links  with  parents,
guardians, AHSMs and house staff to ensure that the health needs of the pupils are safely
met;
•  To be responsible for the management of their own workload;
•  To provide support and establish good communication links with The School Medical
Officer and visiting clinicians.
•  Be  an  effective  and  responsible  team  member,  supporting  fellow  nurses  and
administrative assistant.

Professional

•  To adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of conduct;
•  To  be  responsible  for  his/her  own  professional  and  personnel  development  and
undertaking any training required to ensure safe practice;
•  To practice in accordance with the Sedbergh School’s policies and procedures;
•  To be familiar with NHS Cumbria CCG policies and procedures.
