Page 2 of 5 School Nurse Job Description Reports to: Head of Risk and Compliance Type of contract: Permanent, full time Hours: 8.30am – 4.30pm which includes a 30-minute break, Monday – Friday inclusive. Primary Place of Work: Upper School Holidays: 30 days per calendar year (pro-rated) Position Overview To ensure that the required health support and advice is provided to pupils and parents; and that the Medical Suite requirements are maintained. (Note: health support and care involve a very important pastoral element.) Key responsibilities The school Nurse will report to the Head of Risk and Compliance and work closely with the current Nurses in the Upper School and Lower School respectively. Main responsibilities a) Promoting the physical and mental health of all pupils so as to enable them to achieve their educational potential: Develop and maintain a School medical policies, records and protocols to address specified Encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own health and well-being Attend staff meetings as necessary health requirements/goals b) Providing health advice to the pupils and to those with responsibilities for their education and welfare Health advice and support to school staff, parents, and pupils Liaise with Senior Management, Wellbeing Counsellors, and other health professionals where required. Liaise/work with colleagues and parents concerning pupils’ problems whilst maintaining strict confidentiality Train staff as appropriate e.g., use of EpiPen c) Reduction in preventable causes of ill-health, impairment, and disability. d) Monitoring the completeness of immunisation and advising on selective immunisation. e) In line with the school’s Safeguarding Policy, identifying social care needs, including the need for protection from abuse, recording concerns and reporting them to Designated Safeguarding Lead. In line with relevant staff, identifying possible special educational needs in those with known medical problems. f) g) Ensuring the health surveillance of pupils in accordance with school procedure. h) Treating injury and illness: Treatment of minor injury/illness so that pupils/staff can safely return to work/play Treatment of more serious injuries that require immediate attention but no hospital treatment i.e., pupil/staff member being cared for in the Medical Suite until appropriate person arrives/suitable transport arrives Page 3 of 5 Stabilisation and treatment of serious injuries/illness prior to transfer by ambulance i) Preparing and managing Individual Health Plans for pupils with chronic conditions e.g., diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, anaphylaxis to enable pupils to participate fully in school life. j) Updating and changing medical data on iSAMS: Assess medical history form k) Maintaining confidential pupil medical records in line with GDPR regulations and the school’s guidelines: Contact parents for updates of current medical treatment/progress within the context of respecting pupils’ confidentiality. Update iSAMS with essential pupil medical information for staff whilst maintaining pupil confidentiality l) Maintaining the Medical Suite: Select and maintain appropriate equipment and supplies Supervise medical room and maintain First Aid boxes throughout the school Ensure correct storage and administration of medicines to pupils/staff. Other responsibilities: a) b) c) d) Ensuring that First Aid cover requirements are in place for the Fields. Providing support to the Pre-Prep and ensuring that medical / First Aid protocols in place. Discussing / writing up / circulating any updates regarding school nursing requirements / protocols. Coordinating termly medical meetings with First Aiders and the Lower School team and chairing medical section of the meeting. If required, participation on trips. Prepare first aid kits for all trips, day and overnight. e) Person Specifications Education & Qualifications European/American/ British trained with a licence to practice Nursing in Greece. Experience Minimum 3 years’ experience - ideally 6 months of which spent in A&E/Medical Centre/Walk in Clinic or as Practice Nurse Experience in paediatrics & emergencies. Experience of having worked in an educational environment desirable Experience in occupational health and / or psychiatric nursing Teaching/training experience in health-related matters desirable Knowledge Computer literate e.g., use of word, Excel Excellent command of written and spoken English and Greek.
