School Nurse Job Description & Person Specification March 2026 Term Time Only (Part-time hours) Responsible to: Assistant Head Pupil Welfare Line manages: Medical Centre Job Overview Responsible for the day-to-day management and running of the School’s Medical Centre. This position is the first point of contact for administering first aid to all pupils and staff as required, including pitch side for weekday home matches, special events and any residential trips. Under the guidance of the Assistant Head Pupil Welfare, this position also leads a well- qualified and experienced team of first aiders who work in a variety of roles throughout the School. Duties and Responsibilities: Preparing Individual Health Care Plans (pupils and staff) Liaising with parents regarding on ongoing medical needs Maintaining medical information on the student database Monitoring conditions and dispensing medication, including daily medication for pupils Managing and maintaining stock and resources in the Medical Centre and around School within allocated budget Co-ordinating and overseeing the School’s immunisation programmes Educating pupils, staff and parents on health-related issues Ensuring the School’s First Aid Policy and Administration of Medicine Policy are kept up to date Providing First Aid training to pupils and staff, as and when required Experience of working as a School Nurse of paediatric nurse Qualified First Aider, with experience in training others in First Aid Holds a valid Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) pin number (desirable) Highly organised Strong interpersonal skills Ability to relate well to young people Excellent oral and written communication skills Proficient in wide range of IT systems Keys Skills & Knowledge: Personal Competencies & Qualities: This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties. Probationary Period This role is subject to a probationary period of 12 months from the start of employment, and may be extended at the School’s discretion.
