- Job Summary
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Counsellor to join a deeply collaborative, student-centred Pastoral Team, where your expertise will make a meaningful difference to the mental health and wellbeing of our pupils.
As School Counsellor, you will provide high-quality, confidential counselling to pupils within a caring boarding school environment, supporting their emotional wellbeing, resilience and personal development. The role is primarily focused on one-to-one counselling, helping pupils address personal, social, emotional and educational concerns. You will monitor emerging patterns of concern, contribute to strategic pastoral planning and make appropriate referrals to external agencies where necessary, ensuring that pupils receive the support they need.
Working as part of an established team led by the School Psychologist, you will collaborate closely with the Pastoral Team, Health Centre, House staff and parents to promote a safe, supportive environment that empowers pupils to explore their wellbeing. While the focus of this role is one-to-one counselling, you will also contribute to the sSchool’s wider approach to mental health and wellbeing, liaising with colleagues as appropriate.
The successful candidate will hold a postgraduate Diploma or Master’s degree in Counselling or Psychotherapy and will be accredited or registered with a recognised professional body such as BACP, UKCP, BABCP or BPS. You will have substantial experience working with adolescents and be confident in assessing needs, delivering appropriate interventions and managing emotionally complex situations. Experience of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or other short-term therapeutic approaches is essential, together with a strong understanding of the social, emotional and educational challenges faced by young people.
