SCHOOL CLEANER - STONE

St Dominic’s Priory School are looking to welcome a School Cleaner into our rapidly
expanding school. This role is currently based in the school office area with occasional
duties in the main school buildings to cover absence.

The School Cleaner plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming
environment for staff, students, and visitors. This position is responsible for performing
routine cleaning tasks within school office areas, including dusting, vacuuming, sanitising
surfaces, emptying waste bins, and ensuring toilets and common areas are kept tidy and
hygienic.

Attention to detail is essential in this role, as small oversights—such as missed surfaces,
improperly sanitised areas, or overlooked clutter—can impact health, safety, and the
professional appearance of the school. The cleaner must be thorough, reliable, and
proactive in identifying areas that require extra care, ensuring all cleaning standards are
consistently met or exceeded. By maintaining a well-organised and spotless office
environment, the School Office Cleaner supports the smooth operation of the school and
contributes to a positive and productive atmosphere for everyone.

Position: Cleaner
Location: St Dominic’s Priory School
Hours: 10 hours per week (2 hours per day) either 6-8 am or 5.30-7.30pm
Rate of Pay: £12.41 per hour
Term Time Only: 36 weeks per year
Actual Salary: £5,584.50

Additional Benefits:

•  Uniform provided (cleaning Tabard)

Job Purpose:

•  Ensure that the school’s environment is clean, hygienic, and safe for students, staff,

and visitors.

•  Maintain high standards of cleanliness across all areas of the school, including

classrooms, offices, common areas, toilets, and washrooms.

•  Support the health, safety, and wellbeing of the school community through effective

cleaning practices.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Cleaning Duties

•  Offices:

 Dust and wipe down desks, computer equipment, and other office furniture.
 Empty waste bins and recycle bins.

o  Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors to ensure they are free of dust and debris

•  Corridors and Common Areas:

o
o

 Sweep, mop, or vacuum corridors to maintain cleanliness.
 Clean and sanitise handrails, doors, and light switches.

•  Toilets and Washrooms:

o  Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, and other fixtures.
o  Replenish consumables such as soap, hand towels, and toilet paper.
o  Ensure floors are dry and free from spills.
o  Clean and sanitise mirrors, tiles, and other surfaces.

•

 Windows:

o  Clean internal windows to ensure they are free from smudges and dirt.
o  Use appropriate cleaning solutions and equipment to achieve streak-free

results.
 Other School Areas:

•

o  Clean and maintain staff rooms, and other designated areas.

2. Health and Safety

•  Follow all health and safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe working

environment.

•  Use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and correctly, adhering to COSHH

(Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations.

•  Report any hazards, faults, or damages to the Facilities manager immediately.
•  Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

4. Other Duties

•  Undertake any other cleaning-related tasks as directed by the Facilities manager.
•  Complete any other cleaning duties in line with the role directed by the Facilities

Manager or Site Team.

Training

•  Training will be provided on the use of cleaning equipment and health and safety

procedures, including the correct use of chemicals and PPE.

•  Ongoing professional development opportunities will be available.
