Job title: Saturday Youth Support Worker

Role summary: A rewarding opportunity to make a difference at our well-established youth group for 8-12-year-olds who are autistic without a Learning Disability. It’s a fun, lively and creative environment, with opportunities to develop your youth work.

Weekly working hours are Saturdays 9:30AM to 12:30PM during school term-time only (39 weeks per year). An additional 15 minutes per week is provided for occasional planning and staff meetings – this additional time may be accrued and used as & when needed.

Job location: Wolvercote, Oxford

Pay Rate: £13.20 per hour

Job description: This job is a rewarding and exciting place to work. Typically, the children who attend the youth group are playful, engaging, creative, and are autistic without a Learning Disability. The youth group is their space to chill out, be themselves. socialise, play, and feel supported by peers and staff. It’s a small nurturing group.

You will assist the Youth Group Leader to deliver weekly youth group sessions. You will be working in a small team of staff and volunteers.

MAIN DUTIES
Youth work: Supporting autistic children in a group setting
• Provide a social, nurturing, fun. and safe youth group.
• Assist the Youth Group Leader to plan and run sessions using initiative, and responsibility.
• Support children to participate in activities.
• Actively facilitate and support children to build confidence, social skills, and friendships.
• Occasionally deputise for the Youth Group Leader.

Professional experience of working with young people in a group setting is essential. The successful candidate must be able to support autistic children, use initiative, work well with little supervision and as a team, model and encourage social skills, be punctual and reliable, and have a sense of fun and able to participate in play activities.
