Description

Roving Global Community Liaison Advisor (12 month fixed term contract)

Location: Roving (Home Based when not travelling*)

Starting salary package for this position is £ GBP / approx. $63,000 USD per annum including all allowances

About MAG:

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the role:

MAG is seeking to recruit a Roving Global Community Liaison Advisor to join our Programmes Quality Team. Reporting to the Global Senior Community Liaison Advisor (GSCLA), you will play a central role in supporting the advancement, design, implementation and advocacy of CL practices and projects. CL work at MAG encompasses general community liaison, risk education (in both Humanitarian Mine Action and Armed Violence Reduction), non-technical survey, community engagement, and support to clearance, impact assessment, and victim assistance. At country and regional level, you will provide technical support and guidance for the effective delivery of CL projects and activities, undertaking strategic missions to MAG’s global programmes worldwide for compliance checks, capacity building and mentoring of CL staff.

You will contribute to MAG’s global development of CL tools and approaches, ensuring effective dissemination of best practice across our programmes to strengthen quality, accountability, innovation, and learning. In addition, you may be required to support emergency response initiatives or the start-up of new operations.

This position requires a large amount of travel – estimated at around 60% to 70% of working time – with varying mission lengths and locations, some of which may be organised at short notice. A high degree of flexibility is therefore required to undertake this role.

Requirements

About you:

You will have previous experience of working overseas in the Humanitarian Mine Action sector, with experience of leading, capacity developing and managing national staff to implement Community Liaison (CL) projects and activities. You will have demonstrable understanding of humanitarian mine action activities and excellent technical knowledge of core CL programming areas, including Risk Education, Non-Technical Survey and Impact Monitoring. You should be a strong communicator with strong participatory learning and facilitation skills and will have applied these to train others. You will have a proven background in conducting monitoring and evaluation/quality assurance assessments and demonstrated ability to enhance and improve the quality of technical delivery. You should be innovative, creative, and proactive, with excellent interpersonal skills, able to establish and maintain relationships with people from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds and to foster communication and collaboration between a range of participants including implementing partners. You will have excellent written and spoken English language skills including experience writing reports.

MAG’s areas of operations are often remote with basic amenities, so you will need to be able to live and work in challenging environments, where the need for your skills and MAG’s work is most.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation and monitoring of Community Liaison activities (including non-technical survey, risk education and impact assessment) across multiple conflict, post-conflict or complex environments. Alternatively, experience providing CL technical support at regional or global level.
  • Proven experience developing tools and systems for data collection, analysis, progress tracking, and/or follow-up of action points.
  • Experience of conducting formal monitoring and evaluation (M&E) – internal or external – including quality assurance assessments, compliance checks, and/or the provision of technical recommendations.
  • Experience designing and delivering formal/informal training and capacity building.
  • Multiple language proficiency is advantageous (in addition to English, at least one of the following: French, Spanish or Arabic).

Please note that as part of MAG's commitment to safeguarding, this post is subject to background checks before an offer of employment is confirmed. For more information on MAG’s approach to safeguarding and background checks on our website.

MAG is committed to the principles of diversity, equality and inclusion. If you think you would be suited to one of our roles we would welcome your application regardless of your background. We strive to provide an inclusive and supportive working environment where all employees feel respected and supported in fulfilling their potential.

Women are strongly encouraged to apply.

Further Information:

This is a fixed term position for 12 months which has been classified as ‘roving’. This means that you will be expected to be visiting MAG’s programmes for 60% of your working time or more. When not travelling or in a MAG programme, you will be based at home. MAG will consider applications from candidates who are based in any country, however, the final decision on whether employment in a specific country location can be supported will be based on a compliance and budget check, and be reviewed by MAG’s senior management.  You should therefore clearly set out the country that you would wish to be based remotely in.  Please note that the terms and conditions of employment may be set according to location, to ensure legal compliance, and therefore it is not possible to include full details here.
