Queen Mary Students’ Union (QMSU) Retail Assistant (Retail operations) Full-time role (35 hours per week) 30 days leave + additional college closure days + pension The Village Shop is our one-stop shop, on Queen Mary University of London’s campus in Mile End, which offers a great selection of leading brands for our students, staff and members of the public. We currently sell food to go, groceries, fresh fruit and veg, toiletries, QMUL merchandise, clothing and much more, and in September this shop will be reopened as a Coop franchise on campus. We place a huge emphasis on outstanding customer service and satisfaction, and we are continuously looking to improve and expand our offering to our customers here at QMUL which is why we are looking for someone who enjoys and excels at the customer facing and operational aspect of this role. Sustainability and ethical awareness are paramount to what we do here at Queen Mary Students’ Union which is therefore a key feature in all of our commercial outlets.

Queen Mary Students’ Union represents and supports over 30,000 students and around 4,500 staff who make up the diverse and vibrant student body at Queen Mary, University of London. We are based on the Mile End Campus of the University, which is close to both Mile End and Stepney Green Underground Station.

This role will help us strive to improve our offerings to both the student and staff market with a focus being predominantly on ensuring that the shop is fully stocked at all times and customer satisfaction development. We are looking for someone with a ‘can-do’ attitude, and who is capable of growing with us along this exciting journey. You should have excellent interpersonal skills and a keen eye for detail, as well as being committed to the values of the organisation, being a safe, friendly and student led democratic organisation. Applicants would primarily need to be able to act in an operational capacity on a day-to-day basis but should also have the ability to open and close the shops as and when required. You should be a ‘hands on’ team player who is committed to the values of the organisation, being a safe, friendly environment with the student experience at its core. This role’s hours would be a variety of different shifts, but will include late evenings and some weekend shifts as and when required.

Applicants should have excellent communication skills and have the ability to work with a wide range of people. Candidates must have the ability to work well under pressure, prioritise a varied workload and meet deadlines.

The post is a permanent post with a starting salary within the pro-rata salary range of £27,340-£27,930 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, plus additional college closure days which include bank holidays and additional days over the Christmas period, defined benefits pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan and membership of the Sport and Fitness Centre.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
