UWC is a deliberately diverse, mission-driven international college with a strong commitment to the educational principles of Kurt Hahn, its founder, and a passionate belief in the importance of education as a force for good in the world - to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.

Since 1962, UWC has entrusted students with authentic responsibility and guided them to make appropriate choices and to learn from their mistakes. It is through this trust, responsibility and accountability that students learn that they can make a difference (‘You are needed’) and that through effort and engagement they can achieve far more than they ever imagined (‘There is more in you than you think’).

UWC Atlantic College is recruiting for a Residential Supervisor.

Get ready for a fast-paced and dynamic summer! Our participants come from all around the world, giving you thechance to work with exceptional young people and make a meaningful impact in their lives.

You’ll rotate between day and night shifts, with a balanced mix of responsibilities in both roles.

Here’s a breakdown of the core duties across shifts:

  • Serve as a welcoming and supportive point of contact for participants in the houses
  • Provide important information and prepare participants for their daily activities.
  • Oversee the pastoral care and well-being of participants in the house
  • Facilitate communication between programme staff and participants, sharing key updates
  • Offer engaging activities to build community, like games, movie nights, and talent shows
  • Manage the check-in and check-out process for participants in the house
  • Assist participants who are unwell or need to return to the house early
  • Administer medication as needed according to participants' requirements
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised house environment, including ad hoc basic cleaning and laundry support
  • Uphold our Safeguarding and Health & Safety policies, including fire safety and evacuation protocols
  • Undertake any other duties as reasonably required

Previous experience in pastoral or residential settings, particularly with young people, is highly desirable. However, full training will be provided. What’s most important is your eagerness to learn, passion for helping young people achieve their potential, and readiness to work in outdoor environments, which can sometimes be physically demanding. Your role will be essential in creating a supportive household community.

Successful applicants will receive thorough training before the programme begins, along with ongoing support, monitoring, and mentoring to help you grow in the role. Where possible, we aim to provide recognised qualifications for training.

Reporting to: Pastoral Manager

Responsibilities

The training programme is a compulsory part of the job and you will be provided with full training for all aspects of the activities you will be leading and supervising. This will also include training and development in soft skills, health and safety, teaching and safeguarding.

Once formal training has been completed, supervisors will be expected to:

  • Lead on the supervision of a participant’s residential house during the day and through the night
  • Provide pastoral support to residents
  • Act as the link between programme staff and participants
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised house environment, including ad hoc basic cleaning and laundry support

Skills and preferred experience

We expect our staff to have the following qualities and competencies:

  • Strong interest in working with young people
  • Able to role model good social behaviours and values
  • Show empathy
  • Good teamwork
  • Honesty and integrity
  • Good timekeeping and punctual
  • Uphold the UWC Values at all time
