The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a defence and security think tank that has a deep understanding of regional geopolitics and geo-economics in a global context. Its international researchers provide best-in-class independent and impartial analysis and provide insights on strategic challenges and priorities to governments and the private sector. It is expert at bringing together national leaders and senior policymakers in foreign policy, defence and security; promoting dialogue; and facilitating effective and influential bilateral and multilateral consultations.


An opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to join the Korea Chair programme. This role will report to the Korea Chair for Advanced Technologies, National Security and Defence.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage both public and private events organised by the Korea Chair programme.
  • Support the Korea Chair’s fundraising initiatives, including identifying prospective funding sources, developing proposals, implementing projects, and preparing reports.
  • Assist with research on defence and security issues related to the Korean Peninsula, South Korea’s defence industry, and defence innovation.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for the Korea Chair’s projects, including scheduling interviews, coordinating travel, and managing timelines.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of international relations, defence and security, economics, or other relevant topics.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of regional security issues in South Korea.
  • Demonstrated ability to write to high standards of English.
