Overview The Regions Assistant provides essential coordination, drafting, and administrative support to IAPB’s Regional Directorate, contributing directly to the delivery of IAPB’s regional/national agenda. This includes policy engagement related activities, support for membership activation and contributions to conditions-specific strategies. The role supports the preparation of advocacy and policy materials, coordinates meetings and activities across priority workstreams, and helps ensure that priorities are communicated clearly and consistently to members, partners, and external audiences. The Regions Assistant plays a key role in supporting regional/national engagement campaigns and events, and delivery of global initiatives at local level - through strong organisation, accurate follow-up, and timely, high-quality written outputs aligned with IAPB’s strategic priorities. Scope & Accountability: Regional Advocacy & Policy Coordination • Track and support national-level engagement with government ministries, policymakers, and relevant public institutions across assigned regions, maintaining accurate records of meetings, priorities, and follow-up actions • Support alignment between global advocacy priorities and regional/national activities, helping adapt global policy positions, messages, and milestones for local contexts. • Assist regional leads in coordinating inputs from IAPB members and partners into advocacy plans, consultations, and policy processes. National & Regional Stakeholder Engagement • Support engagement with IAPB members at national and regional levels, including tracking participation, coordinating communications • Help coordinate regional and country-level meetings, briefings, and consultations, including preparation of agendas, background materials, and notes. • Maintain up-to-date stakeholder and engagement trackers to support effective regional planning and reporting. Events, Campaigns & Advocacy Delivery • Support the planning, coordination, and logistics of regional and national events, including policy briefings, workshops, roundtables, and side events aligned with IAPB priorities. • Support follow-up actions from events and advocacy moments, tracking commitments, outputs, and next steps. Condition-Specific & Thematic Strategy Support • Support the coordination and implementation of condition-specific strategies (e.g. cataract, refractive error, myopia, diabetic retinopathy) at regional and national levels. • Assist in gathering country-level insights, examples, and data to inform condition- specific advocacy, learning, and reporting. • Help ensure that condition-specific advocacy efforts are aligned with broader health systems, UHC, and development agendas at national level. Monitoring, Tracking & Reporting • Monitor regional and national policy, advocacy, and sector developments relevant to eye health and vision care. • Support internal tracking and reporting of regional advocacy activities, engagement outcomes, and progress against plans. Content & Communications Support • Support the development and updating of regional content for the IAPB website, including country updates, events, and resources. • Assist with drafting content such as short briefs, updates, case studies, and success stories for sharing with the Communications team. • Help ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment of regional messaging with global IAPB policy positions and campaigns across platforms. Education, Skills & Experience: Required: • Undergraduate degree in related field (International Affairs, Political Science, Public Health) • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate content for newsletters, blogs, websites, and internal updates. • Good organisational and administrative skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. • Ability to coordinate across teams and support collaborative ways of working. • Basic project coordination skills, particularly in relation to events, meetings, and communications outputs. • Comfortable working in a remote, multicultural, and globally distributed team environment. Desirable: • Graduate degree in relevant field of study (International Affairs, Political Science, Public Health etc.) • Familiarity with advocacy, campaigning, or policy environments (academic, civil society, or internship experience welcome). • Experience supporting communications, events, or stakeholder engagement activities. • Interest in global policy processes or the work of international organisations. • Strong interest in international development, global health, or multilateral affairs. • Positive, solution-oriented, and proactive team player.
