Regional Choir Director – Dumfries

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Regional Choir Director to help us build on the strong foundation we already have in Dumfries while bringing fresh ideas to attract new members and grow our choirs over the coming years. If you’re excited by the idea of making a real impact, nurturing young voices, and being part of something full of potential, we’d love to hear from you.

As Director, you will be responsible for selecting exciting, age-appropriate repertoire, developing harmony, expression, and vocal technique in a supportive group environment. Being a member of our choir should be an opportunity to develop social skills and confidence in a healthy, nurturing environment and we take the safeguarding of our members with the utmost seriousness. Each choir has a Choir Coordinator and your will work closely with them to ensure the smooth running of the choirs. Musicianship tutors deliver 30 minute sessions weekly and you will be their first point of contact on rehearsal evenings.As well as weekly rehearsals, you will present and conduct concerts and maintain the high standard of presentation we expect from all of our choirs.

What we’re looking for:

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in directing choirs, preferably with children and young people.
  • Record of planning and delivering presentations and concerts.
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of people, including children and young people, music staff and families.
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to the aims of NYCOS to promote and enhance choral singing in Scotland.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of choral music and conducting.
  • Knowledge of the Kodály approach to musicianship.
  • Understanding of the barriers and challenges which can prevent inclusion and strategies to overcome them.
  • Knowledge of the Scottish music and education sectors.

COMPETENCIES

  • The ability to communicate effectively with children, young people and adults
  • Able to adapt and work flexibly with a variety of situations, individuals or groups.
  • Can demonstrate and promote enthusiasm, commitment and a passion for choral singing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills building and maintaining collaborative team work.
