About Us

Rowans Hospice is a charity that provides free care and support to adults and their families living in the Portsmouth and South-East Hampshire region who have a life-limiting illness. Established in 1994, our income is generated by ongoing support of the local community, donations, legacies, fundraising and through our retail shops.

The Role

The Reception Supervisor role works within the Facilities team at Rowans Hospice, Purbrook and reports to the Facilities Manager. The role provides front-of-house cover during assigned shifts while offering day-to-day operational supervision and support to the Reception service.

Key Responsibilities (please refer to the Job Description for a full list of responsibilities) 

To provide senior, on-shift operational oversight of the Reception service during operational hours, ensuring a welcoming, safe and well-organised front-of-house environment at all times.

The postholder carries out the full range of Receptionist duties while acting as a senior point of contact for Reception staff and volunteers, providing guidance, coordination and escalation support as required. The role holds day-to-day line-management responsibility for the Receptionist while supporting consistent service delivery and effective communication between Reception and the wider Hospice.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in a Reception, customer service or supervisory role
  • Calm, professional and compassionate manner
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good organisational and IT skills
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to work effectively in emotionally demanding situations
