RCP trustee on the Board of FPM

FPM is seeking a Fellow from one of the three Royal Colleges of Physicians to undertake the role of clinician trustee on the FPM Board of Trustees. The tenure is for a period of 3 years which can be extended to a maximum of 6 years if re-appointed.

Charity trustees are the people who serve on the governing body of a charity. Trustees have and must accept ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of a charity and ensuring that it is solvent, well-run, and delivering the charitable outcomes for the benefit of the public for which it has been set up. Trustees are also Directors of FPM under the Companies Act.

There are four board meetings (three hour duration) per annum (January, May, July and October). The AGM in November, a budget approval meeting in December (1 hour) and an in person board development day if held. Trustees will need to read papers which are sent out 10 days before the board meeting and may need to attend meetings to address board business these are ad hoc and will be online.

The role is not remunerated however FPM will reimburse reasonable travel and subsistence costs arising from attendance at FPM events under the terms of FPM’s Expense Claim Policy.

The Charity Commission of England and Wales and the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator explain the eligibility criteria and the key duties of trustees and should be referred to as part of delivery of this role.

Eligibility

Applicants for the role must:

• Be a practising medical doctor who is actively connected with, and credible to, the clinical community. They should hold a licence to practice.
• Be a subscribing Fellow of one of the Royal College of Physicians.
• Be in good standing with the RCPL, RCPE or RCPSG, your employer, and the GMC.
• Be credible to the clinical community
• Possess a skillset relevant to the remit of the role (at times this may include ongoing expertise related to the NHS in the United Kingdom).
• Be willing to devote the necessary time and effort to fulfil the requirements of the role. See role description for full details.

Expertise

• Some experience, direct or indirect, of medical/scientific research, the development and /or regulation of medicines and the specialty of pharmaceutical medicine would be desirable.
• Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of trusteeship
• An interest and ability to undertake the role. Previous experience as a charity trustee is desirable but not essential
