VOLUNTEER ROLE DESCRIPTION PULLMAN CARRIAGE CARETAKER START YOUR VOLUNTEER JOURNEY Volunteers are the beating heart and soul of our much-loved living museum. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway offer a wide range of experiences for those who love history, trains, and a unique experience. Volunteering presents you with the opportunity to meet new people, from all walks of life, gain worthwhile skills and this results in a real sense of achievement. We will attempt to find the right role for you to fit in with your circumstances and the commitment you wish to give, and we hope to be able to welcome you to the NYMR volunteering family. OVERVIEW OF PULLMAN CARRIAGE CARETAKER ROLE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ROSTER: This is not a roasted role; however regular attendance is desirable to maintain the presentation of the Pullman Carriages. TIME COMMITMENT: We would warmly welcome volunteers who can offer their time across one day, every other week during the running season. Monday and or Friday when the Pullman is not running. We’re grateful for any time you’re able to give, whether on a regular or ad-hoc basis and hope you’ll consider joining our growing team of dedicated volunteers. WHERE YOU VOLUNTEER: Grosmont Station (YO22 5QE) and Carriage & Wagon Workshop Pickering (YO18 7AJ) WORKING CONDITIONS: Mixture of indoor and outdoor work, sometimes in confined spaces or at height. UNIFORM & EQUIPMENT: Any necessary protective clothing will be provided. WHAT NEXT? WHATS INVOLVED? • maintaining the presentation of the Pullman Carriages • cleaning of walls, ceilings and curtains • shampooing of carpets • cleaning in between chairs and around heating ducts, possibly removing them if necessary • carrying out minor repairs to tables and chairs if they become insecure • repair of curtain tracks and tieback hooks • repair of curtains (depending on skill) • replacing faulty bulbs • reporting any more serious issues found to the relevant department DESIRABLE SKILLS • have good practical skills, particularly wood working • can undertake minor curtain repairs (depending on proven skills) • enjoy working to a high standard with great attention to detail, particularly when it comes to presentation and cleaning • enjoy working as part of a team • have excellent communication skills TRAINING All training will be provided to support you in your role, including manual handling, and working safely in and around carriages.
