JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title PSHE Tutor (Lead Tutor) & DDSL Department Quality Job Reference PSHE Tutor Reports to Head of Centre Location Salary Flexibility Contractual status Role summary Launceston £33, 810 (pro rata of £41,860) 35 hours over 5 days per week Full-time, fixed-term, 42 weeks until July 2027. This role is offered on a fixed-term basis aligned to the academic year and learner recruitment. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated PSHE Tutor to join our delivery team as a lead tutor. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Personal, Social, Health, and Economic education (PSHE) and recent experience working with young people with a range of educational needs. The role involves delivering a tailored and inclusive PSHE curriculum that supports the personal development, wellbeing, and life skills of learners, ensuring they have the tools and confidence to navigate adulthood. The postholder will also act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. Key responsibilities These key responsibilities are neither a comprehensive nor exhaustive list, and the duties may be varied from time to time by your line manager or executive director. Curriculum Delivery 1 Develop, plan, and deliver engaging and accessible PSHE lessons that cater to the diverse and individual needs of learners, focusing on personal development, emotional well-being, relationships, life skills, health education, and financial literacy. To contribute to the preparation of course materials and ensure that all learning equipment is in good order and available for the delivery of lessons. To carry out administrative tasks related to courses and attend meetings as required by the Head of Centre. Individualised Support Assess and understand the unique needs of each learner, tailoring sessions and activities to ensure meaningful engagement and success across the vocational and core subjects. Work closely with delivery colleagues, to design a learner-centred learning experience that empowers learners to take ownership of their learning, ambitions and future. Personal Development & Well-Being Support learners in developing a range of life skills, including self-awareness, communication, decision- making, and problem-solving, to foster their independence and confidence. Support the reflective and restorative culture taking into account the personal, social and emotional needs of learners. To develop and enhance expertise in supporting learners with complex social, emotional and mental health needs by attending training as required. Tracking and Reporting Progress Monitor and track learner progress in PSHE, providing feedback to learners, parents/carers, and other professionals. Maintain a practical understanding of service standards and Quality Improvement initiatives 2 relevant to the curriculum area and work to these standards, engaging in personal and professional development as appropriate. Promote Positive Behaviour Foster a positive learning environment by encouraging good behaviour, mutual respect, and a growth mindset in all learners. Ensure that individual behaviour strategies are incorporated into all planning for teaching and learning, are rigorously monitored and evaluated and appropriately changed when required. Continuous Professional Development Contribute to the culture of continuous professional development for educational support staff, where learning and development activity is closely linked to individual, team and organisational priorities. Engage in ongoing training and professional development to keep up to date with best practices, new teaching methods, and SEN-related strategies. Lead Tutor Responsibilities Lead and coordinate PSHE delivery, support/mentor other members of the delivery team and contribute to curriculum consistency. Act as a PSHE point of contact and support quality improvement and staff development. Success in this role will be measured by the effective delivery of key priorities, objectives, and targets set by the organisation. This includes achieving established performance metrics, demonstrating consistent improvement in processes, and contributing to the overall mission of Step into Learning. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to promote positive relationships with learners and stakeholders, enhance the quality-of-service delivery, and actively participate in 3 Measure of success Continued professional development initiatives that drive organisational growth and development. The postholder will ensure that Step into Learning safeguarding and welfare policies and procedures are known, understood, and used appropriately. Will keep detailed, accurate, secure written records of concerns and referrals (including electronic documents) and refer all concerns to the safeguarding team. The postholder will act as the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, taking responsibility for safeguarding and child protection (including online safety). o To support the Designated Safeguarding Lead and action relevant tasks delegated to them through frequently liaison. 5 o To refer cases of suspected abuse to local authority children’s social care or adult safeguarding team as required. o To refer cases to the Channel Programme where there is a radicalisation concern as required. o To support staff who make referrals to local authority children’s social care or adult safeguarding team and Channel programme. o To refer cases where a person is dismissed or left due to risk/harm to a child or vulnerable adult to the Disclosure and Barring Service as required. o To refer cases where a crime may have been committed to the Police as required. o To keep detailed, accurate, secure written records of concerns and referrals (including electronic documents). o To ensure that Step into Learning child protection and vulnerable adult protection policies and procedures are known, understood, and used appropriately with all staff, especially new and part time staff.
