About BritSom

BritSom is a BAME-led community organisation based in Barnet supporting children, young people, families and elders through education, health, wellbeing and community development programmes. Our work promotes healthy lifestyles, environmental awareness and community cohesion.

Role Overview

The Project Manager will oversee BritSom’ s community health, food growing and healthy lifestyle programmes. The role includes coordinating staff, volunteers and partnerships while ensuring the effective delivery of community allotment activities, health education sessions, fitness activities and the Big Cook Healthy Eat programme.

Key Responsibilities

·         Manage delivery of community food growing, health and wellbeing programmes.

·         Line manage the Community Food Growing Projects Worker and Community Health & Wellbeing Project Worker.

·         Coordinate weekly programme activities including allotment sessions, cooking sessions and fitness classes.

·         Ensure integration of nutrition, food growing and healthy lifestyle messages across programmes.

·         Engage community members including young people, families and elders.

·         Develop partnerships with local organisations, schools, community groups and health services.

·         Oversee monitoring, evaluation and reporting to funders.

·         Support outreach activities including occasional wellbeing visits to community members.

·         Ensure safeguarding, health and safety and organisational policies are followed.

·         Support programme sustainability and contribute to funding proposals.

Person Specification

Essential

·         Experience managing community projects or programmes.

·         Experience working in community development, health promotion, environmental programmes or food growing initiatives.

·         Experience supervising staff, volunteers or facilitators.

·         Strong organisational and project coordination skills.

·         Ability to engage diverse communities including young people, families and elders.

·         Understanding of health inequalities and community wellbeing.

·         Excellent communication and partnership-building skills.

·         Ability to monitor outcomes and prepare reports.

·         Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and community empowerment.

Desirable

·         Experience working with migrant or refugee communities.

·         Knowledge of food growing, sustainability or environmental education.

·         Experience with community health initiatives.

·         Experience managing grant-funded programmes.

·         Knowledge of community networks in Barnet or North London.

·         Project management qualification or equivalent experience.

·         First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake training.

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
