Safeguarding Responsibilities:

 

  • Enforcing the company’s safeguarding policy.

Job Purpose:

To be responsible for providing 24/7 accommodation support, coordinating a team of paid employees, bank staff, and security teams to facilitate a safe environment for those accessing St George’s Crypt Overnight Centre.

Under the leadership of the Head of Service, to strategically and sustainably lead the Overnight Centre, ensuring the project remains relevant to the city and is delivered in line with Leeds City Council priorities, the service delivery plan, and the ethos and trust deeds of St George’s Crypt.

To lead and develop a high-performing team of Project Navigators to deliver a transformational, sustainable, and safe service.

To work in partnership with external agencies to ensure the accommodation needs of residents are met in a professional, compassionate, and person-centred manner.

Key Responsibilities and Main Tasks:

  • Assess prospective residents to determine suitability for the service.

  • Review accommodation applications to ensure they meet the required standards and available resources of the building.

  • Maintain accurate records of resident’s income to support appropriate housing benefit applications for new residents.

  • Manage resident licence agreements and monitor resident behaviour in line with service expectations.

  • Oversee the overnight operations of the building and the management of staff teams.

  • Carry out regular building inspections to ensure the environment is safe and operational, escalating any repair issues as required.

  • Conduct routine checks of all resident areas to identify maintenance issues early and prevent escalation.

  • Coordinate with relevant departments to ensure timely completion of repairs and maintenance works.

  • Liaise with internal teams to repair or replace broken appliances and identify any internal /external systems requiring attention as required.

  • Maintain order within the community by enforcing rules around noise, anti-social behaviour (ASB), and conduct, addressing issues promptly to protect the safety and wellbeing of the building and wider community.

  • Manage anti-social behaviour cases where necessary, including taking action to address serious breaches of licence and / or SGC agreements or illegal activity on site.

  • Act as a neighbourhood liaison to ensure the local community is not negatively impacted by the service.

  • Oversee and monitor utilities for the building.

  • Ensure all organisational policies, procedures, and relevant health and safety legislation are consistently implemented and adhered to.

  • Work with partner agencies to ensure high standards of practice during overnight operations.

  • Maintain effective communication across all teams using Microsoft Teams, email, and staff meetings.

  • Develop and manage staff rotas, including bank and security staff, to ensure safe staffing levels and smooth shift transitions.

  • Arrange appropriate cover for annual leave, sickness, and other absences, and provide direct shift cover where required.

  • Participate in the weekend on-call rota and respond to emergencies in line with organisational policies and procedures.

  • Provide reports to the Deputy Head of Client Services (DHoCS), Head of Client Services (HoCS), and Leadership Team as required.

  • Attend meetings as directed by the Head and Deputy Head of Client Services.

  • Work collaboratively with the Daytime Project Lead to ensure seamless and consistent 24-hour service provision.

Financial and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded and monitored in accordance with the charity’s financial policies and procedures, including the safeguarding of client and organisational funds and property.

  • Maintain a sound working knowledge of the Housing Benefit framework, supporting and monitoring claims to maximise eligible income.

  • Complete and maintain clear, accurate, and timely financial documentation in relation to service delivery, ensuring appropriate audit trails and compliance requirements are met.

  • Maintain and regularly update a comprehensive directory of external support and maintenance services, ensuring staff have access to accurate and relevant referral pathways and support resources.

Essential Job Role Specific:

  • Experience of leading, supervising, and supporting a team to achieve high standards of performance.

  • Experience of Housing management.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • High levels of empathy, emotional resilience, and the ability to work effectively in challenging and fast-paced environments.

  • Skilled in managing complex or difficult situations calmly and decisively.

Desirable Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience of leading teams within a shift-based or 24-hour service environment.

  • Background in supported housing, homelessness, or services supporting individuals with chronic and complex needs.

  • Experience working with disadvantaged or vulnerable groups, including those affected by homelessness, asylum processes, substance misuse, or domestic abuse.

  • Experience within the voluntary or third sector.

  • Previous experience in care provision or residential support settings.

  • Experience of safeguarding vulnerable adults and children

  • Experience of supporting people who are victims of domestic violence

  • Knowledge and practical application of trauma-informed approaches.

  • Competence in using Microsoft Office applications and SharePoint.
