Britten Pears Arts (BPA) is a pioneering Music & Arts based charity, situated on the beautiful Suffolk coast, working across a wide range of activities. Music-related charitable work includes Artist Development, a year-round Performance Programme, Music in the Community and Creative Health and our Living Heritage Museum and Archive at The Red House.
At Snape Maltings, our significant commercial activity includes Retail, Hospitality, Galleries and Property – including holiday lets and accommodation for visiting artists. All commercial profits are used to support the BPA charity. We employ more than 150 permanent colleagues, many of whom work flexibly, together with significant numbers of seasonal staff and freelancers.

About the role
The Programme Manager: Pathways is responsible for the strategic leadership, planning and delivery of Britten Pears Arts’ formal music learning pathways for children and young people. Leading key programmes including Advanced Young Musicians (AYM), KS1 Musicianship and Friday Afternoons, the postholder ensures the delivery of high-quality, inclusive and progressive musical experiences that support long-term participation and talent development.
This role combines strategic oversight with operational delivery, holding responsibility for programme quality, partnerships, budgets and team management. The successful candidate will be a trained musician with significant experience in music education and programme or event management, a strong understanding of the wider music education landscape and experience delivering programmes for young people. They will be a confident and collaborative leader, committed to safeguarding, educational excellence and inclusive practice, and motivated to create ambitious, well-connected pathways that enable children and young people to progress and thrive.
The role is based at Snape Maltings but some travel and support to other locations within Suffolk will also be required.
In particular we are looking for a candidate who can:
- Lead the planning, delivery and ongoing development of Pathways programmes, including Advanced Young Musicians (AYM), KS1 Musicianship and Friday Afternoons
- Ensure clear, coherent and inclusive progression routes for children and young people across all programmes
- Work in collaboration with artists and tutors to develop high-quality curricula, learning outcomes and progression frameworks
- Oversee participant recruitment, assessment and progression, ensuring processes are accessible, transparent and equitable
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships with schools, Music Hubs, conservatoires and other sector organisations
- Oversee the delivery of rehearsals, courses, concerts and performances, ensuring a consistently high-quality participant experience
- Manage programme budgets, including monitoring expenditure, forecasting costs and ensuring financial compliance
- Ensure all activity is delivered in line with safeguarding, licensing, DBS and Department for Education requirements
- Line manage and support staff, freelancers and artists, providing clear direction, supervision and professional development
- Lead monitoring, evaluation and reporting processes, using insight and data to inform continuous programme improvement
- Oversee the delivery and development of Friday Afternoons, including digital content and licensing processes
- Represent Britten Pears Arts externally, building relationships and contributing to sector networks and partnerships
- Support the development of youth voice and ensure programmes reflect the needs and experiences of participants
- Contribute to a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing team culture across the organisation
