The Université du Québec à Rimouski is seeking a candidate for a position as Professor of Evolutionary Biology in the Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Geography. The desired research expertise includes molecular evolution, developmental evolution, evolutionary ecology, quantitative genetics, experimental evolution, evolutionary theory and modelling, or systems biology. The successful candidate will join a team of professors and researchers whose interests include evolutionary physiology, molecular ecology, wildlife ecology and conservation, oceanography, limnology, plant ecology, and global change. The successful candidate will be required to define an original and innovative research program and actively engage in it. They will have privileged access to research facilities unique in Quebec, including the Chic-Chocs Mountain Research Station and the Pointe-au-Père Aquaculture Research Station, as well as an animal husbandry facility, an aviary, and various laboratories (e.g., microbiology, microscopy, molecular ecology, and evolutionary physiology).

The successful candidate must be able to teach biology at the undergraduate and graduate levels in French. They must also be able to supervise undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students in the completion of their research projects. The courses Evolutionary Biology (BIO-28115) and Energy Metabolism (BIO-21199) are among those available for teaching. In addition, they will also be required to participate in various university committees and organisations and, where appropriate, perform pedagogical administrative tasks.

Job requirements

  • Level and field of study: Doctorate in evolutionary biology or a discipline relevant to the field of study. In the latter case, candidates with a bachelor's degree in biology will be given preference.
  • Area of specialization: Evolutionary biology.
  • Preferred areas of research: Molecular evolution or Evo-Devo or Experimental evolution or Theory and modeling of evolution or Systems biology or Eco-Evo.

Salary

The salary will be established according to the UQAR Professors’ collective agreement.
