Hankinson Duckett Associates (HDA) is seeking a Principal/Associate Landscape Architect to help lead our Landscape team and compliment the Ecology and Arboriculture teams within our friendly multidisciplinary practice. The role would suit a professional looking for a ‘hands-on’ approach who enjoys carrying out their own project work as well as overseeing and supporting the wider team.

About us:
HDA is a team of landscape architects, ecologists and arboriculturalists who collaborate to ensure that the environment is at the forefront of development decisions for a wide range of development types and environmental projects. HDA is an employee-owned trust (EOT), meaning that the company is managed for the benefit of its employees. We are a relatively small firm who pride ourselves on the quality of our work and maintaining good client relationships.

What we do:
We have a varied workload, a broad client base and are committed to producing environmentally sensitive schemes. We have an exciting range of projects, of various scales and complexity, both within the public and private sector, including a specialism in Landscape Planning. This specialism means that we are often involved in projects from a very early stage, allowing us to shape the designs that we will later detail. You would become an integral member of the wider team, frequently working closely with the other specialisms within the practice and our clients. For examples of the wide range of projects the successful applicant will be involved with, please see our website www.hda-enviro.co.uk

What we offer:
In addition to working as part of our friendly and supportive team, we offer a wide package of benefits in addition to the staples of job security and work-life balance. Benefits include a competitive starting salary, flexible/hybrid working and a bonus scheme, with tax breaks enjoyed on EOT bonuses. During employee surveys, our team express a high level of satisfaction of working at HDA and would highly recommend HDA to others as an employer. The role will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to further develop themselves and colleagues, with potential for future promotion, including joining the team of Directors. We actively offer and encourage training to develop your professional career.

Applicants should demonstrate the following:
– CMLI qualified, with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience within the industry, with a proven ability to carry out landscape planning work including a good command of English for report writing to produce concise of LVIAs, Green Belt studies, Landscape Character and sensitivity studies, and/or a high level of design competency with the ability to lead, review, train and inspire junior staff.
– A willingness to increase your knowledge/abilities by on the job training/guidance including providing support to junior members of the landscape team and other specialisms within the practice. Experience of/a willingness to support staff on the Pathway to Chartership would be advantageous;
– An ability to manage your own projects and workloads with limited supervision and a focus on meeting budgets and deadlines;
– Excellent communication skills – both written and oral communication are highly valued in addition to design communication;
– Competence in standard software including MS Word, Excel, AutoCAD, Adobe etc; and
– A full driving license and car ownership.

Experience in private consultancy, including time at a senior level, is preferred, although we would be happy to consider individuals working in the public sector who can demonstrate the necessary skills and experience. A proven ability to win new clients and develop existing relationships would be regarded as a distinct advantage. An interest in ecology and/or arboriculture would also be regarded as beneficial. This is a full-time position, but consideration would also be given to part-time/flexible working for the appropriate candidate.
