Priest in Charge of St Cuthbert, Peterlee
The Bishop of Durham invites applications for the position of Priest in Charge to serve the parish of St Cuthbert, Peterlee.
St Cuthbert’s is the only Anglican church in Peterlee and occupies a sizeable and visible plot on the fringe of the town centre and since 1986, it has been the site of the Town War Memorial. Peterlee was built as part of the New Town’s Act of 1946, to provide modern housing for miners, with the first houses being built in the early 1950s. It is a garden town, with plenty of green spaces to nourish the soul and has on its southern perimeter Castle Eden Dene National Nature Reserve. We are also close to the East Durham Heritage Coast and the exceptional road, bus and rail links, make accessing the beauty of God’s creation across our region really easy.
St Cuthbert’s is an outward-looking church, committed to the service of others, and are aware that mission is about who they are and what they do, not just as a collective Body of Christ at St Cuthbert's, but also as individuals and how they live our lives. They are passionate about mission and seek to develop this in all they do.
St Cuthbert’s are praying for a priest who can walk with them on the journey of mission and community service, and someone who can will relish the idea of exploring how Peterlee can be a better place because St Cuthbert’s is there.
