PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT NURSE | Band 5 | £31,049 - £37,796 per annum + an additional £100 honorarium per month.

We have an exciting new secondment opportunity on our In-Patient Unit! We are looking for a Practice Development Nurse to play a key role in strengthening learning, development and evidence-based practice within our clinical team.

This is a fantastic internal opportunity to develop your skills, combine high-quality direct patient care with leadership in education, and to support colleagues to grow while helping shape a culture of continuous improvement across the IPU.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Continue to Deliver Outstanding Patient Care- Providing safe, compassionate and evidence-based care to patients and families, while modelling best practice within the inpatient setting.
  • Leading Learning & Development- Supporting the induction, orientation and ongoing development of new staff, HCAs and student nurses, ensuring they feel confident, supported and set up for success.
  • Supervising & Assessing Practice- Acting as a Practice Supervisor (and Assessor if trained), offering constructive feedback, supporting competency development and promoting high clinical standards.
  • Designing Practical Learning Solutions- Identifying learning needs within the team and creating engaging development opportunities, including point-of-care teaching, skills refreshers and competency support.
  • Driving Quality Improvement- Contributing to audits, service development and reflective practice, using outcomes and shared learning to continuously enhance patient care.
  • Championing Professional Standards- Upholding governance, safeguarding and NMC standards while fostering a positive, inclusive MDT culture that supports wellbeing and professional growth.

This Band 5 secondment opportunity includes an honorarium in recognition of the additional responsibilities and offers a valuable chance to develop your leadership, teaching and quality improvement experience within our specialist palliative care service.

HOURS OF WORK

This is a secondment position of 12 months. The role is Full-Time (37.5 hours per week) - working a shift rota spread over 7 days

ABOUT YOU

Please Note that only existing Dorothy House employees / volunteers are eligible to apply for this role.

Essential requirements:

  • Registered Nurse (Adult/Child) with current NMC registration currently working at Dorothy House.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of current frameworks and standards that inform evidence-based practice within palliative and End of Life care.
  • Evidence of personal ongoing professional development relevant to the role.
  • Holds a teaching, assessing, or mentorship qualification - (e.g., Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor training), or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of teaching and/or facilitating training to health and social care practitioners - including both non-registered and registered staff.
  • Understands diverse learning needs and is able to adapt teaching methods and resource material to meet different learning styles.

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience with quality improvement, audits, or service development.
  • Experience challenging poor practice and adapting personal support and competency development to staff.
  • Experience facilitating group discussions and using reflective tools to enable peer feedback.
