JOB PURPOSE
Working as part of the Big Tech Accountability Team (BTAT), the Advocacy and Policy Adviser will play a key role in advocating for the effective regulation of Big Tech corporations in key target jurisdictions globally, with a particular focus on reining in the surveillance-based business model which underpins data-driven tech giants such as Meta, Google, and TikTok. Working closely with researchers, campaigners, affected communities and coalition partners, you will coordinate, develop, implement and lead the BTAT's advocacy activities at the international, regional, and national level, while ensuring that research and other outputs are informed by the overall advocacy goals of the team.
Please note, the fixed term contract is expected to end by 13 November 2026.
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience in advocacy related work, preferable in the technology and human rights field. You will have experience creating and analysing policy briefs and will have the ability to analyse legal and policy concepts.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, cultivate and leverage effective relationships with affected communities, decision-makers, legislators, CSOs, policy experts and researchers to deliver on the BTAT's advocacy goals;
- Monitor and analyse key policy and regulatory trends relevant to Big Tech and track emerging standards for regulation of surveillancebased business practices;
- Coordinate, develop, implement and lead on the development of new policies to advance Amnesty International's advocacy goals related to Big Tech, mass corporate surveillance, and platform accountability;
- Develop the BTAT's advocacy strategy on regulating Big Tech; facilitate brainstorming and strategic planning sessions; align the strategy with wider advocacy goals at Amnesty International and Amnesty Tech;
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience in international advocacy or advocacy-related work, preferably in the technology and human rights field.
- Ability to formulate and apply coherent policies based on a detailed understanding of human rights standards and Amnesty International's core values.
- Experience producing high quality advocacy outputs including analyses, policy briefs, position papers and submission, and ability to analyse legal and policy concepts.
