Inspire Youth Tyne and Wear (Company Number 08540636) is a constituted Community Interest Company delivering high-quality, not-for-profit services to children, young people, families, and communities across Newcastle and North Tyneside.

 Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, and flexible Play & Youth Practitioner to join our dynamic team.

This is a hands-on role supporting the design and delivery of inclusive play and youth work sessions for young people aged 5–19, across a range of community settings.

You will work both centre-based and out in the community through detached and outreach youth work — so no two days are the same.

 Pay

    • £13.45 per hour– Centre-based sessions
    • £17.00 per hour– Detached/outreach youth work

Additional hours are available during Easter, Summer, and Winter school holidays.

 About the Role

    • Getting stuck in with everything from activities to clearing up

Key Responsibilities

    • Plan, deliver, and evaluate engaging and inclusive sessions
    • Create a safe, welcoming environment for children and young people
    • Promote free play, creativity, and active lifestyles
    • Build positive and professional relationships with young people
    • Work both independently and as part of a team
    • Travel to venues and transport equipment as required
    • Complete paperwork and reports accurately and on time
    • Follow safeguarding, health & safety, and organisational policies
    • Attend supervision, team meetings, and training
    • Support programmes that respond to the needs of local communities
    • Act as a positive role model for young people
    • Support young people’s personal development and decision-making
    • Represent Inspire Youth professionally with partner agencies
    • Take responsibility for young people on trips, visits, and residentials
    • Deliver detached/outreach youth workin parks, estates, and community spaces

Essential Criteria

    • Passion for working with children and young people
    • Level 2 qualification in Youth Work, Play Work, or equivalent
    • Experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds
    • Understanding of youth work values and safeguarding practices
    • Ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly and effectively
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Good organisation and time management
    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
    • Willingness to travel across Newcastle and North Tyneside
    • Full UK Driving Licence (preferred but not essential)
