Job Title: Placement Coordinator

Hours: 0.4 FTE (14 hours per week)

Start Date: September 2026 (may be flexible)

Salary: Salary: £11,520 per annum (0.4 FTE; full-time equivalent salary £28,800)

Main Purpose of the Role

Nazarene Theological College invites applications for the post of Placement Coordinator.

The Placement Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the practical formation of students through the development, administration and oversight of placement-based learning. Working closely with students, placement hosts, line managers and academic staff, the post holder will ensure that placements provide high-quality learning opportunities that complement and enhance students' academic studies and vocational/ministerial and Christian formation. They will primarily be involved with students on the Practical Theology pathway but will also have some involvement with the Counselling pathway, as the other placement-based undergraduate pathway.

The successful candidate will maintain strong partnerships with The Hub organisations who host our Practical Theology placement students.

Background

Nazarene Theological College is a research-led partner college of the University of Manchester and an institution of the Church of the Nazarene. Situated in Didsbury, Manchester, the College was founded in 1944 and serves approximately 350 students across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, representing a wide range of nationalities and Christian traditions. The College also prepares candidates for ordained ministry within the Church of the Nazarene.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Placement Development and Administration

  1. Manage and develop placement recruitment processes and placement structures for placement-based courses. This includes induction activities based on campus prior to students starting their placements.

  2. In conjunction with the Academic Office, maintain accurate records of placement hubs, placement hosts, students and all associated administration.

  3. Develop and sustain relationships with placement providers, ensuring placements meet programme requirements and provide appropriate learning opportunities.

  4. Coordinate the allocation of students to suitable placements in consultation with the Placement Committee.

  5. Ensure placement documentation is completed and maintained, including learning agreements, placement records and review documentation.

  6. Arrange and manage enhanced DBS disclosures and associated safeguarding requirements for placement students where appropriate.

Student and Placement Support

  1. Coordinate and conduct placement visits, including set up meetings, mid-placement reviews, observations of practice and end-of-placement reviews as appropriate.

  2. Meet with students and placement supervisors to monitor progress, support student development and address any concerns arising during placements.

  3. Assess the suitability and effectiveness of placements and provide recommendations for improvement where necessary.

  4. Ensure that placement experiences support students in integrating academic learning, professional practice and vocational formation. This includes stepping up progress on placement from one academic year to the next.

  5. Contribute to assessment and feedback for placement-related modules or modules on the degree programme..

Quality Assurance and Reporting

  1. Provide written and verbal reports to the Placement Committee regarding placement quality, student progress and placement host engagement.

13.Contribute to Placement Committee meetings as required including coordinating the meetings, reporting to them, ensuring follow up and chairing if delegated

  1. Contribute to the ongoing review and enhancement of placement structures, policies and procedures.

  2. Maintain an awareness of campus-based learning and work collaboratively with academic staff to ensure effective integration between academic and placement learning.

Recruitment and College Life

  1. Participate in student recruitment and admissions activities, including interviews where appropriate.

  2. Contribute to Open Days and other College events on a pro-rata basis.

  3. Represent the College professionally in relationships with students, churches, placement providers and external partners.

General Responsibilities

  1. Prioritise workload effectively, meet deadlines and maintain accurate records.

  2. Work within College policies, procedures and safeguarding requirements.

  3. Actively contribute to the Christian ethos, mission and values of Nazarene Theological College.

  4. Undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required by the College.

Essential

● Experience of pastoral accompaniment, mentoring or reflective practice.

Desirable

● Experience of placement-based education, vocational formation or work-based learning.

Experience of higher education administration.

Experience of church, charity, community or ministry leadership.

● Knowledge of theological education and ministerial formation.
