Job reference: AM AN CEC

Would you like to join a PA team who support two siblings aged 17 (Graeme) and 18 (Hannah), currently living in the family home undertaking a slow transition to their forever flats where they will live next door to each other a short distance from the family home in South Edinburgh?

You will have the opportunity to enhance the lives of both young people who live with a gene flaw which means they need to take life at their slower pace and require support to help them live their happiest lives.

Hannah loves cooking, baking, shopping and chatting to her contacts in the local community. She enjoys baking for her local pop-up coffee morning, and dropping in to share her goodies followed by a trip into town for a treat. She knows her local bus numbers and routes and enjoys planning these. She likes quiet spaces and engaging with calm and predictable people. At home she has a deep knowledge of pop songs, watching her soaps on catch up and doing jigsaws together, she also enjoys helping with household tasks. She has a superb memory for names and birthdays and enjoys making gifts for these special occasions. Hannah is currently staying at her forever flat one night a week and has asked to stay for two nights which we are about to start.

Graeme is a very loving and calm lad who enjoys cuddles and fun. Graeme when at home enjoys technology and his favourite letter and number games on his iPad. Graeme likes playing music on simple instruments, cause and effect games, bubbles and balloons. Outside the home he likes to swim and go on day trips at quiet times of day. He loves car journeys and follows car video journeys on YouTube and then directs the driver to follow the route in real life. Graeme’s health needs mean he can spend periods at home and he thrives on affection during this time. Graeme uses a mix of writing and signaling to communicate. A sensory room is being created at his flat to attract him to start spending some time there.

Hannah and Graeme need PAs who are calm but also fun and who can flex to support them by tailoring home and community support depending on their ability that day. Both young people are sensory and require individualised support to access activities ensuring that places are not too busy or noisy. Drivers are welcome, especially for Graeme, as he is unable to access public transport. There are days when Hannah and Graeme are tired and support will be fully home based.

You will be joining experienced PAs who have worked with the family for some time and some recently recruited team members.

We are currently recruiting midweek, shifts are c12 hours (7-7). We are looking for people for waking night support, getting to know Hannah and Graeme at their home and then supporting them in their forever flats as they move. A very small number of long day shifts are also available.

Shorter day shifts of 6 hours in the afternoon are also available to work alongside another PA to support Graeme to access his interests and the local community.

There is flexibility on the number of shifts per week, however a regular shift pattern is essential.

Weekend shifts will be available later in the year, if you have specific interest in weekends for later in the year please do still get in touch and we can meet.

Experience of additional support needs is required and a willingness to learn about their specific gene flow and how this affects them, demand avoidant autism, signalong, and to undertake first aid training if not already held. The employer will pay for training.

Support for you is available through membership of the PA Network who provide wellness support, employment support and discounts.

A clean PVG must be held, non-smokers are preferred and for Graeme a pet free home is needed due to allergies.

The rate of pay is £14.50
