Personal Assistant
MPM2322 Personal Assistant
JOB DESCRIPTION
Part-time Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I am a 73-year-old man in his 70s living in the Efail Isaf area with my partner. I am a former police officer and used to travel with work occasionally. I enjoy watching rugby, listening to music (I like Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles) and reading Stephen King novels.
I also like to get out and used to go walking a lot and enjoyed fishing. These are things I would like to do more often now.
I have a diagnosis of Dementia but do not recognise this myself. My diagnosis is not a topic of conversation with me, and I do not feel like I need support myself.
PURPOSE OF JOB
Support me to access the community and to provide my partner with respite. Since I do not wish to receive support, my partner is hoping my PA can be more of a “friend” to me and to provide the support without me feeling like I am being cared for.
HOURS OF WORK
I have 8 hours per week available, and this can be used flexibly.
Initially we might use less hours while you build a relationship, but we aim to try and get up to the 8 hours once comfortable.
RATES OF PAY
£15 per hour plus 40p per mile where applicable.
TASKS INVOLVED
- Going walking with me.
- Building a relationship with me and being more of a “friend” rather than a “carer”.
- Providing me with company and having conversations with me.
- Encourage me to do things and go places.
- Distracting me when I get distressed about my Dementia.
- Build up to potentially going fishing.
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
- A car driver with business class insurance.
- A person with a good sense of humour.
- A confident person.
- Someone who can hold a conversation with me.
- A friendly and kind person.
- A reliable and punctual person.
- Someone who respects the privacy of working in someone else’s home.
ABOUT THE JOB
Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The wage will be paid monthly and appropriate holiday pay given.
The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check - which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority).
The relevant checks will be carried out to ensure any applicant has the right to work in the UK
