JOB DESCRIPTION

Part-Time Personal Assistant

LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I am an 83-year-old lady living alone in sheltered accommodation in the Rhydfelin area. I am a very sociable and friendly person who enjoys meeting up with friends, having a chat, and getting out into the community. I enjoy going out for meals and maintaining my social life, which is very important to me.

Due to a previous road traffic accident, I have mobility difficulties and use walking aids. I require physical support when getting in and out of vehicles, sitting down and standing up from chairs, and when accessing toilets in the community. I also have macular degeneration, which is affecting my eyesight, and I am experiencing some short-term memory difficulties.

I like to be active and engaged and can sometimes become very enthusiastic and spontaneous. I would benefit from support from someone who is kind, patient, and able to provide gentle guidance and reassurance when needed.

PURPOSE OF JOB

To provide support to enable me to access the community safely and continue enjoying social activities, particularly meeting friends for lunch and maintaining my independence and wellbeing.

HOURS OF WORK

4 hours per week.

Saturday 10:30am – 2:30pm.

RATES OF PAY

£15.75 per hour

TASKS INVOLVED

  • Collecting me from my sheltered accommodation and supporting me safely to and from the vehicle.
  • Providing physical assistance with mobility, including support when sitting down, standing up, and accessing toilets when out in the community.
  • Accompanying me to social activities, particularly visits to restaurants in the Pontypridd area to meet friends.
  • Providing companionship and support whilst out in the community.
  • Ensuring my safety and wellbeing during outings.
  • Returning me home after activities and helping me settle comfortably with a cup of tea and a light meal or sandwich.
  • Reporting any concerns regarding my wellbeing to my family where appropriate.
  • Following agreed support arrangements and consulting my son, who holds Lasting Power of Attorney, regarding any significant changes to plans or routines.

TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED

  • A kind, friendly, and sociable person who enjoys conversation and supporting older people.
  • Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy.
  • Patient and understanding, with the ability to provide reassurance and gentle guidance when required.
  • Confident in supporting someone with mobility difficulties and visual impairment.
  • Able to maintain appropriate professional boundaries whilst building a positive working relationship.
  • Observant and able to recognise when additional support may be needed.
  • Respectful of confidentiality and the individual’s dignity and independence.
  • A driver with access to a suitable vehicle and appropriate insurance for transporting clients.
  • Experience of supporting older adults, people living with memory difficulties, or vulnerable adults would be advantageous
