JOB DESCRIPTION
Part-Time Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I’m a 30-year-old woman living in Cowbridge with my three cats. I’m easy to get along with. I can come across as chaotic because I jump from one topic to another. I also start one project or task but then get easily side-tracked and don’t finish what I’ve started.
I am working towards regulating my emotions and better understanding my own mental health. There have been times when I’ve self-harmed or gotten into situations that have required professional intervention. We can discuss this in more detail at the job interview so that you are better informed. Although it can be challenging, I attend DBT therapy for this which is really helping me.
On bad days, I tend to sleep so I don’t have to think about what is going on. My housework can get on top of me so the house becomes untidy which then makes me feel depressed.
PURPOSE OF JOB
This job is about helping me attend my DBT therapy sessions. Other duties include support out in the community or in the home (dependent on what is needed week to week) and encourage my emotional regulation skills.
HOURS OF WORK
4 hours per week, day and time to be flexible, arranged week to week depending on my requirements.
RATE OF PAY
£16.50 per hour
TASKS INVOLVED
- Taking me to and from DBT therapy session in Whitchurch
- Picking up my medication from the pharmacy if required
- Helping me to keep on top of med orders and collection and that I am taking them
- Supporting me with emotional regulation when required
- I would like support to tidy up my bedroom – a lot of sorting out is needed to clear the space
- General housework – light basic cleaning on occasion
- Ensuring my safety at all times
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
- Ok with cats in the home
- Life experience is essential – someone who understands everyone comes from different backgrounds that can shape them differently to others
- Being non-judgemental is essential; you must accept that I have a mental health condition but at the same time not using it to ‘label’ me
- Someone who will research and understand what DBT therapy is about
- Be able to handle, manage and navigate situations which might seem complex in the moment
- Patient, kind and friendly
- Someone with firm professional boundaries
- Clear and firm communication skills are necessary – you will be able to be firm but fair with me, especially when I need an extra bit of prompting
- You must be sensible, mature and reliable
- Although the job sounds serious (which it is), I need to work with someone who has a sense of humour, can engage in light banter and have light-hearted conversations especially to help put me at ease
- Someone who understands emotional regulation and mental health is really important
- This role is better suited for someone with support worker/caring/mental health experience
- A proactive person who can support me to achieve my objectives
- Full UK driver’s license and use of car
