St Wystan’s School Job Description: Peripatetic Music Teacher (piano) Responsible to: Headteacher Job Overview To deliver piano lessons to pupils of all ages, on an individual basis. The teacher will be responsible for setting up their own timetable, liaising with the individual teachers in school regarding lesson times, and communicating directly with parents regarding billing, lesson times and pupil progress. Preparing pupil for school music events and performances, as well as external examinations, will also be an important element of the role. We are looking for an accomplished and qualified teacher, with experience working in schools, to join our dedicated peripatetic team. Duties and Responsibilities: • Teach piano to pupils, ranging from complete beginners to those of a high standard, focussing on the technique and musical potential, offering encouragement, support and guidance as necessary Liaise with staff to organise a timetable that takes into account rotation of lessons • • Be responsible for own administrative procedures including invoicing and billing to parents • Communicate directly with parents as necessary, reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils • Prepare pupils for examinations, where appropriate • Prepare pupils for, and to be available to support, school events such as House Music, Celebration Day, concerts, festival and competitions etc. • Encourage pupils to take the available opportunities to develop all aspects of their musical skills • Promote the general progress and well-being pupils in their care • Act in a professional manner, maintaining good order and discipline among pupils, safeguarding their health and safety, both on the School premises and when they are engaged in authorised School activities elsewhere • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons within our school • Undertake such training as may be reasonably required by the School Training and Development • To take responsibility for own continuous professional development including attending relevant training and CPD; • To attend INSET as requested and when relevant.
