PACKWOOD HAUGH SCHOOL JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Peripatetic Music Teacher

The visiting Music Teacher is an integral member of the Packwood Haugh School Music Department; they report to the Head of Music.

The purpose of the role is to provide high calibre lessons for pupils, enable them to perform musically to the high standards expected by the School and achieve their full potential in music examinations, concert performances and scholarship auditions as appropriate. This will be achieved through one-to-one lessons, and assistance with ensembles and coaching as required. Packwood teachers carry out their duties responsibly and with regard for the best interests of their pupils and the school. In particular, teachers are expected to meet the expectations set out below.

Core Expectations:

Conduct themselves in an appropriate professional manner at all times and to support and foster the aims of the School.

Ensure that the school safeguarding policy and procedures are followed at all times.

Ensure that they are familiar with the School’s health and safety guidance and be mindful of their own health and safety and that of their pupils.

Make themselves familiar with the contents of the Teaching Staff Handbook including the School’s aims and policies, and their own departmental handbook.

Have a responsibility to ensure the safety and good conduct of the pupils, following the guidance in the Teaching Staff Handbook and helping to enforce the Packwood Code and Way.

Teaching and Learning:

• Provide high calibre music lessons to pupils.

Demonstrate appropriate techniques to pupils and use a range of different learning styles to encourage.

• Foster a love of learning and inspire enthusiasm and enjoyment for music.

• Deliver one-to-one lessons and coach ensembles.

Attend relevant in-service training each year, either in school at the start of term or externally as requested by the Headmaster.

Notify the Head of Music as early as possible if they are going to be absent from school. Self-certification/ return to work forms must be completed for sickness (for one to seven calendar days, after which a doctor’s note must be provided) and submitted to the Bursar.

Participate in the required administration and organisation of tasks related to such duties as described above.

Carry out pupil assessments and provide written reports and assessments as requested by the School.

• Perform any reasonable duties as requested by the Head of Music.
