APPLICATION DETAILSLOCATION: White Lodge, Richmond Park HOURS:Students receive 27 lessons of40 minutes over the academicyear. This may be subject tochange depending on artisticperformances and other schoolcommitments.OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ROLECONTRACT: Self-employed, commencingApril 2026APPLICATION CLOSING DATE: 20 March 2026 (Applications will bescreened on submission. The Schoolreserves the right to interview andappoint if a suitable candidate isfound before the closing date)Teaching includes guitar (electric and acoustic) to 3 students, drum kit to 4students, and cello to 1 student (8 students in total). This reflects the currenttimetable and is, of course, subject to change. The days for lessons at WhiteLodge can be flexible each week, in discussion with the Lead Teacher ofMusic. Teaching hours at White Lodge are between 8:30am and 4:00pm.SUMMARY OF THE ROLETeach one-to-one lessons in the relevant discipline(s) at White Lodge,ensuring that 27 lessons of 40 minutes per academic year (per discipline)are deliveredPrepare students for ABRSM examinations or similar, as required, includingpreparation for sight-reading and aural testsDraw up a weekly timetable of lessons, following procedures according tothe detailed workings of the Ballet and Academic schedules at WhiteLodge. A degree of flexibility will be required when scheduling lessons atcertain points in the academic year.Explore the option of running a small ensemble, depending on the scope ofinstrumentalists available in any given academic year (this would beremunerated separately)Perform at musical events if required by the Lead Teacher of Music (thesewill be remunerated separately).MAIN DUTIESDESIRABLE CRITERIAProfessional performance experienceAdvanced training or experience in Drum Kit teachingAbility to teach Cello to approximately Grade 5 standardWillingness to contribute to wider activities and events within the MusicDepartment as required.PERSON SPECIFICATIONESSENTIAL CRITERIASolid experience of peripatetic teaching with secondary school students inthe relevant disciplineTraining to at least degree level or equivalent in Guitar, with the ability toteach Drum Kit and basic CelloFlexibility to work around the complexities of the weekly timetables at theRoyal Ballet SchoolCompetent administrative skills, including managing weekly lessontimetables, maintaining registers, and communicating with staff andparents where necessaryThe ability and willingness to maintain high standards of disciplineThe ability to maintain appropriate professional relationships with staff andstudentsA confident and open approach, with excellent interpersonal skillsA commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children andyoung peopleAn understanding of the aims and ethos of the School.The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare ofchildren and young people and recognises that safeguarding and promotingthe welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility.
