Job Title: Peer Support Coordinator (Norfolk–Norwich)

Starting Salary: £ 29,580 + travel expenses

Contract: 9 months, with potential for extension

Annual Leave: 30 days annual leave (pro rata) + 8 days bank holiday and closure
between Christmas and New Year

Pension: 8% (employer contribution 3%, employee contribution 5%)

Responsible to: East Anglia Peer Support Integration Manager

Based: Travel to Oak Street Clinic in Norwich on Fridays, otherwise remote.
Monthly staff meetings in London (and possibly further team meetings in London,
as required) - travel costs to London will be covered. We prefer candidates to be
based in Norfolk or its environs.

Hours: 2.5 days per week

Role summary:
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of people living with
HIV? Do you bring empathy, energy, and lived experience to your work? We’re
looking for a dynamic and compassionate Peer Support Coordinator to help
shape and deliver an exciting new service across East Anglia.

This innovative programme is embedding high-quality, person-centred peer
support into HIV clinical pathways—particularly for those newly diagnosed through
Emergency Department (ED) testing, and for individuals who may be at risk of
disengaging from care. It’s a bold, collaborative initiative at the intersection of
lived experience and clinical care.

As Peer Support Coordinator, you’ll work hand-in-hand with clinical teams in
Norfolk (Oak Street Clinic), while also reaching out into the community. You’ll be
part of a dedicated and inspiring peer support team working across the region to
ensure no one feels alone in their diagnosis or journey.

To thrive in this role, you must be living with HIV and bring a deep, personal
understanding of its impact. You’ll also have experience supporting people with
complex needs, and a passion for peer support, empowerment, and community-
led change

Case Management
The Peer Support Coordinator will manage an ongoing caseload of people living
with HIV, often with complex needs. You will be responsible for providing ongoing
support, ensuring effective follow-up, and working toward the best possible
outcomes for each individual.

You will provide one-to-one clinic-based peer support, including:

•  Emotional support
•
•  Goal-setting and supporting clients to achieve their goals

Information, advice, and mentoring

Advocacy on a wide range of issues as defined by client needs, including:

o  Adjusting to a new diagnosis
o  Starting treatment
o  Living well with HIV
o  Sharing HIV status with others and relationships
o  Mental health
o  Substance use and chemsex
o  Safer sex
o  Ageing with HIV
o  Accessing services and treatment advocacy

Support will be provided in the Oak Street clinic in Norwich, and where
appropriate, via phone or online.

Peer Support One-to-One Interventions will include:

•  Responding to all referrals in a timely and appropriate manner
•  Registering clients where appropriate
•  Assessing clients’ needs using a wellbeing assessment tool
•
•  Co-creating a wellbeing plan
•  Signposting and referrals
•  Advocacy support (e.g., hardship grants, UKBA/NASS letters, Care Act

Identifying safeguarding concerns and taking appropriate action

referrals)

•  Regular follow-ups
•  Reassessment and planned exit from the service

Group Activities

You will contribute to the planning and delivery of online and in-person group
activities, in collaboration with the East Anglia Peer Support Integration Manager
and other regional Peer Support Coordinators. These may include:

•  Service user forums
•  Thematic workshops
•  Recently Diagnosed Workshops
•  Social activities

Monitoring and Evaluation

•  Maintain accurate electronic records
•  Use the wellbeing assessment tool
•  Support evaluation with the Integration Manager and external evaluators

Peer Mentor Volunteers

Identify, recruit, and refer potential peer mentors

•  Volunteers will have access to P100 HIV Peer Support training
•  Roles may include mentoring, befriending, and community access support

Collaboration and Teamwork

•  Build relationships with HIV clinics in South and Mid Essex
•  Work with Peer Support Coordinators across East Anglia
•  Collaborate with local support organisations
•  Attend MDT meetings, supervision, and training

•  The postholder must be based in the region. We will cover local travel

expenses across East Anglia for attendance at meetings and activities, as
required and in line with our policies. (subject to pre-approval)

•  Post is open to any candidate based in London or any other cities around

Norfolk that is close to travelling to the clinic. We will cover travel expenses
between other cities and clinics if successful candidate is not based in Norfolk.

•  You must be committed to undertaking all required training (including
safeguarding, peer support, and mental health first aid and clinic’s own
training)

•  The role involves some evening or weekend work. Time off in lieu (TOIL) is

offered.

•  The post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

•  This role is only open to people living with HIV in line with the genuine

occupational requirement of peer-led support.

Terms and Conditions:

The post will be offered for an initial 3-months probationary period. Training in
peer mentoring and access to Safeguarding Training and Mental Health First
Training will be provided to the successful candidate, and continuation in the role
is dependent on successfully completing and achieving peer mentoring core
training.

Normal working hours 9:30 am – 5:00pm, including half–hour lunch each day;
however, evening and weekend working will be required. Time off is given in lieu
and there are no overtime payments linked to this post.
