Background
We are an Anglican church, serving a parish in Selly Park, South Birmingham, which is about to enter Vacancy. The church was established here about 50 years ago as a plant from St Stephen’s Church, Selly Hill, and has grown substantially since the early days, into a thriving church with an Evangelical tradition. We currently engage four paid staff namely a Caretaker, Cleaner, and Toddler Group leader, and which will include the new Administrator. We have several groups/sub-committees who are responsible for different areas of church life, and our many volunteers enable most of our activities to take place.
Job Description
We expect our Administrator to play an important role in all aspects of church life, being available to help, encourage and support volunteers with our various activities, managing the building, ensuring our statutory obligations are carried out (e.g. Safeguarding and Health and Safety), supporting the administration of PCC/AGM etc. meetings (including taking minutes), and ensuring good communications in all areas, whilst ensuring confidentiality where required.
We would like our Administrator to be pro-active in seeing what needs to be done and to help the church develop better structures.
A detailed list of the Administrator’s duties is included in the full job description
Person Specification
Because of the nature of the work in supporting and representing church life in our community, the preferred candidate should be in sympathy with / hold shared values with our Christian ethos. As well as possessing the necessary technical skills, experience, and knowledge (see full description), the person we are looking for will be self-motivated, but patient and attentive to others’ needs. They will need to be prepared to be flexible with hours of work at busy times of the year, and have the ability to work under pressure at times whilst maintaining a sense of humour. In the role, the Administrator will meet and work with a wide range of people in different roles, who they will need to be able to relate to. The successful candidate must have an awareness and sensitivity of cultural variance. We are committed to promote the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All staff and volunteers are expected to share our commitment to safeguarding, and all appointments are subject to acceptable pre-appointment checks, including a satisfactory DBS check.
