This is an exciting new opportunity to for a warm and approachable Parent/Carer Teenlife Facilitator to join our Norfolk and Suffolk team to deliver the National Autistic Society (NAS) Teen Life Course to parents and carers of autistic young people. This is a home-based role with regular travel to deliver face-to-face sessions in community settings. The Teen Life Course supports parents and carers to better understand autism during adolescence and to develop practical strategies to support their young person’s wellbeing, independence, and transition to adulthood. Family Action will fund the Train the Trainer course which is a 2-day online course, ongoing registration fees and all travel costs.
We are looking for someone who has experience of working with autistic young people, parents or carers (professionally or lived experience) and is confident in delivering structured programmes both face to face and online. The successful candidate will need to have strong communications and group facilitations skills and understands autism, particularly in relation to adolescence and family life.
Main Responsibilities:
• Delivering the NAS Teen Life Course to groups of parents and carers
• Creating a safe, welcoming space where people feel comfortable sharing and learning
• Guiding discussions around adolescence, wellbeing, relationships, independence and transitions
• Using NAS materials to deliver engaging, supportive sessions
• Keeping simple records and feedback after sessions
• Travelling across Suffolk and North East Essex to deliver courses
• Working independently but with support from the wider team
• Full UK driving licence required and access to a car
Main Requirements (for details check the job description and person specification):
1. To work closely in a small team to deliver the Teenlife Autism Programme to parents and carers of children and young people recently diagnosed with autism.
2. To accept referrals from approved partners for parents and carers who would benefit from the course, identifying accessibility and logistics of course locations and keeping partners informed of these.
3. Arrange, advertise and book parents onto courses and maintain a waiting list if necessary.
4. To co-present 6-week Teen Life course 4 -6 sessions per year across locations in Suffolk and North East Essex and online via Zoom.
5. To signpost parents to other specific support services if requested after course delivery and complete a follow up evaluation after 6 weeks
6. To collate qualitative and quantitative data from attendees to support internal and external reporting requirements using agreed and approved methods
7. To review and action and changes or recommendations that have been identified by attendees from feedback.
8. To identify and record specific and relevant details of course and attendees onto Inform adhering to GDPR and DPIA legislation
9. To ensure all the equipment and course material is available and maintained for quality delivery.
10. To undertake Teenlife Train the Trainer training course and any other relevant training to be able to deliver the programme.
11. Take responsibility for your own continuous professional development, identifying and attending training which will support growth in the role.
12. To ensure continuous registration is up to date for course delivery
13. Response appropriately to any safeguarding concerns and ensure you have an understanding (appropriate to your role) of, and comply with Family Action’s procedures for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults
14. To welcome parents and create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for learning. To build friendly and trusting relationships and make any reasonable adjustments to help parents to access the setting and the learning.
15. Send reminders about courses starting, letting attendees know about any changes, following up with presentation slides and any additional links and resources.
16. To actively participate in service reviews and evaluations as required and to help with providing information and data for the delivery of quarterly reports to commissioners.
