We are looking for a passionate Parent Participation Practitioner to support the Camden Parent Carer Forum and help ensure the voices of parents and carers of children and young people with SEND are heard.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a parent carer with lived experience of SEND in Camden who wants to contribute to improving local services while developing professionally in a supportive environment.
You will work alongside the Parent Participation Coordinator to engage with families, support consultation activities, and promote co-production with the local authority, health services and other partners.
The role is primarily based at our Camden office in Belsize Park, with some travel to community venues and the opportunity for flexible home working.
About the Role
As Parent Participation Practitioner, you will help strengthen the Camden Parent Carer Forum by supporting communication between families and local services.
You will play a key role in encouraging parent participation, helping families share their experiences, and ensuring these insights help shape local policies and services for children and young people with SEND.
Key Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with families of children and young people with disabilities in Camden.
- Support consultation activities with parents and carers to inform local service development.
- Represent the Parent Carer Forum at meetings with the local authority and key stakeholders.
- Champion co-production, ensuring families are actively involved in shaping services.
- Help organise and deliver information sessions and events for parents and carers.
- Support the design and distribution of the monthly Forum newsletter.
- Assist with managing the Forum’s social media accountsand online communications.
- Carry out outreach to encourage wider participation in the Forum.
- Empower parents and carers to engage in consultations and service planning.
- Keep up to date with services available to families of children with disabilities.
- Support monitoring and evaluation of the Forum’s impact.
- Attend supervision, team meetings, conferences and relevant training.
You may also be asked to contribute to special projects or working groups as opportunities arise.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Lived experience as a parent carer of a child or young person with SEND in Camden.
- Understanding of the role and purpose of Parent Carer Forums.
- Good understanding of disability and its impact on families.
- Commitment to partnership working with parents, carers and professionals.
- Experience facilitating consultations or organising information sessions.
- Knowledge of co-production principles.
- Ability to lead or support parent support groups.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to gather, analyse and share information effectively.
- Good report writing and analytical skills.
- IT skills including Microsoft Office.
- Strong time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Sensitivity and discretion when handling confidential information.
Desirable
- Experience supporting families of children with disabilities.
- Understanding of challenges faced by families of children with SEND.
- Experience working in diverse and multicultural communities.
- Knowledge of multi-agency working.
- Confidence using the internet and social media for engagement.
Further details:
Location: Camden / home-working / community-based
Salary: £6,808.00 per annum including holiday pay
Hours: 10 hours per week, term time only, Monday – Wednesday
