Job Title Painter and Decorator Responsible to Estates Supervisor Role Overview To assist with maintaining all paint work to a good standard across all areas of the School, internally and externally. This would include small internal maintenance touch ups or complete redecoration of dormitories, classrooms and large function rooms, and scheduled maintenance to external windows, fascias, soffits and guttering. Responsibilities and Duties – Painter and Decorator ● Prepare surfaces, by washing down, filling of holes and cracks and removing old paint if necessary. Removal of fixtures and fittings to windows and doors etc., prior to painting, and replacement after ● Preparation of area, including removal of furniture, covering down and protecting to prevent any unnecessary damage or mess ● Mixing, matching and applying of paints and varnishes to various surfaces ● Assist with planning projects and helping calculate quantities of material and time required to carry out project/work ● Maintaining good stock of regularly used paints, brushes and roller sleeves etc ● Liaising with colleagues to choose finishes ● Undertake internal plastering to stud walls and small areas requiring repair ● Undertake minor repairs to artex ceilings and decorative mouldings when required during specific small project work ● Occasionally work out of hours to assist with large school events Person Specification Essential ● Embody the values of Clayesmore, demonstrating loyalty to the school and its ethos ● City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Painting and Decorating (6707-33) or equivalent ● Have a good working knowledge of all paint materials, how to prepare surfaces and be able to demonstrate a good standard of finish ● Good understanding of colours and finishes of all decorating materials ● Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds with confidence ● Experienced in calculating volumes and quantities of all decorating materials ● Responsible, professional, polite and friendly manner ● Good written and verbal communication skills with others ● Confident to work alone or with team members ● Organised with a good knowledge of safe working practices ● Valid driving licence Desirable ● Proven experience ● Previous experience of working in a similar educational environment Additional Information • This is an all year round role • 40 contractual hours per week, to be worked within a shift rota which covers 7 days per week. Entitlement to one hour unpaid breaks each day. ● Holiday entitlement will be 22 days (pro rata) per year (1 September – 31 August), plus 8 bank holidays. You may be required to work any public holiday when the School is open, for which time off will be given.
