Outdoor Practitioner - Job Description

Job Title: Outdoor Practitioner

Reports to: Team Leader

Location:

Job Purpose:
To work as part of the Stramash Team providing early learning and childcare in an outdoor
setting to children aged 0 to 5 years (older during school holidays); to foster an environment
that encourages each child’s development; continually deliver high standards of outdoor early
learning and childcare provision to allow each child to reach their full potential, while also
working with the wider family.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

1. Deliver quality early learning, childcare provision and family based work
in the outdoors.

2. Take specific responsibility for a group of children, ensuring they have
access to and participate in high quality early years provision.

3. Promote a happy, caring and welcoming atmosphere for children,
parents, staff, volunteers and visitors.

4. Implement all Stramash policies and procedures.

5. Work in partnership with parents, staff and other professionals.

6. Provide effective and regular feedback to parents.

7. Record and report on the work, progress and development of the
children, including daily recording. Maintain portfolios, files and records,
ensuring they are always up to date and accurate.

8. Plan quality activities and sessions in line with the Early Level within
the Curriculum for Excellence ensuring that the children’s developmental

needs are central.

9. Contribute to the on-going development of the Early Years work including
the development of the outdoor site, and continue to develop the ethos of
outdoor learning in all the work of the Stramash team.

10. Actively and fully participate in self-assessment and review
processes.

11. Source and prepare materials for the delivery of
sessions.

12. Undertake appropriate and agreed continuing
professional development.

13. Assist in the planning and implementation of special nursery
events.

14. Supervise, train and mentor apprentices as directed by the Team
Leader and support and motivate other members of the team.

15. Support the Team Leader in their role and take on delegated
responsibilities as and when required.

16. Represent the organisation at external meetings and events when
delegated to do so by the Team Leader.

17. Carry out care, maintenance and security of the nursery site and
equipment.

18. On occasions, participate in early learning & childcare events,
other events, Stramash activities and training outwith standard
working hours.
