Primary
Responsibilities: Undertake  the  role  of  Driver,  Fireman,  Guard  or  Signalman,  as  required.  Following
suitable training, undertake the role of Inspector and Responsible Officer as required.

Reporting to:  Operations Manager, Yorkshire Dales Railway Museum Trust (Holdings) Limited

Hours:

Annualised hours based on 40 hours per week.

There will be a requirement for some shift working and weekend and Bank Holiday
working.

Annual Leave entitlement: 25 days.

Salary:

Negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities (in addition to the Primary Responsibilities above)

1.  Promotion of a positive safety culture.

2.  Practical ‘hands on’ work, including shunting and train preparation/servicing when required.

3.  Assist with covering operational roles where required and when competent to do so.

4.  Assist the steam, diesel, or carriage & wagon department managers with maintenance and repair work

as and when required when not undertaking primary role.

5.

In  conjunction  with  the  Operations  Manager,  monitor  the  effectiveness  of  the  railway’s  Competence
Management System (CMS), providing advice and guidance to drive continuous improvement.

6.  Following training, join the team of Responsible Officers to manage operations on a day-to-day basis.

7.  Following  training,  join  the  team  of  locomotive  inspectors  and  support  the  team  by  undertaking

competence assessment of operating staff.

Accountability

The postholder is accountable to the Operations Manager.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its staff and visitors.    All staff are
expected to share this same level of commitment.    The role may require the post-holder to be in a position
of responsibility with respect to young persons or to vulnerable adults and may, subject to requirements,
require an enhanced Criminal Records check.

The role of Operations Assistant is designated as a Safety Critical role, and the postholder is required to
carry out safety critical activities.   The successful candidate will be required to undertake and to pass an
appropriate medical examination carried out by the Company’s appointed Medical Practitioner.

The role is also entitled to non-safeguarded “Priv Travel” on the national railway network for so long as such
concession is granted to us.
