Role Description

The School of Artisan Food is seeking a capable, organised and motivated Nutrition & Social Impact Lead to join our team on a fixed-term maternity cover basis. This unique role sits at the intersection of food education, nutrition, public health and social impact, supporting the continued delivery and evaluation of high-quality charitable and community programmes.

The School of Artisan Food is a specialist food education charity based on the Welbeck Estate in North Nottinghamshire. Alongside our artisan food training and higher education provision, we deliver a growing programme of social impact activity through our Engage pillar. This includes our well-established Best Food Forward programme (led by our Interim Head of Best Food Forward), food education with community groups, workforce development opportunities, healthcare professional training, advocacy activity and research partnerships.

Our Engage work seeks to improve food literacy, increase confidence and practical skills, support healthier and more sustainable food choices, and create meaningful positive outcomes for individuals and communities. We work closely with schools, healthcare professionals, universities, charities, local authorities and community organisations, as well as seek opportunities to widen participation to achieve these aims.

This role will provide specialist nutrition/dietetic, public health and evaluation expertise across a range of projects and programmes. Working closely with the Interim Head of Best Food Forward, CEO and wider Engage team, the successful postholder will contribute to programme development and delivery, research and evaluation activity, help maintain the evidence base underpinning our work, and coordinate social impact measurement and reporting across the charitable portfolio.

A principal objective of this fixed-term maternity cover post will be to design and embed a proportionate School-wide impact reporting system that enables consistent measurement, evaluation and reporting of outcomes across Engage programmes and projects. This should include the development of social value and Social Return on Investment (SROI) approaches. Experience of developing or implementing impact measurement frameworks, social value reporting or SROI methodologies would be particularly valued. Whilst this is an area of organisational development for The School, external training, mentoring and support will be made available where appropriate.

Commented [JP1]: To be clearer?

Commented [JP1R2]: Maybe the next sentence clarifies?

Commented [LR1R3]: I prefer the title Nutrition & Social Impact Lead - great suggestion

Commented [JP2]: For discussion - as you say Lianna is leading on the Schools work

The role would suit a nutrition or public health professional who enjoys variety and is looking to apply their expertise beyond traditional settings. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable reviewing educational resources, delivering training and workshops, contributing to research projects, evolving impact data collection and analysis, and communicating findings to a range of audiences.

As a small charitable organisation, we value individuals who are collaborative, proactive and willing to contribute to the wider functioning of The School. The successful postholder may have line management responsibility for broader School team members and will contribute to trustee reporting and lead organisational impact reporting activities, whilst working within a supportive and flexible team environment. We are seeking someone with a pragmatic, hands-on approach, who is willing to support wider organisational activities and oƯ-site events where required, recognising that colleagues across the School regularly work together to ensure the success of our programmes, visitors' experiences and charitable activities.

Based on the proposed maternity cover arrangements, strategic leadership, executive responsibilities and organisation-wide decision-making will remain with the CEO and wider leadership team and therefore are not a requirement of this role.

Duties

Independently lead the design and implementation of a proportionate Schoolwide impact reporting system, establishing consistent approaches to the measurement, evaluation and reporting of outcomes across Engage programmes and projects. Develop and embed social value and Social Return on Investment (SROI) approaches where appropriate, helping to strengthen the School's ability to evidence and communicate its wider social impact.

Lead the development, delivery and review of nutrition and public health food education projects across the School's Engage portfolio, including healthcare professional training, health promotion interventions and collaborative projects with schools, charities and other third-sector organisations.

Work with the Interim Head of Best Food Forward to develop, review and update educational resources, training materials and supporting documentation, ensuring they reflect current evidence, best practice and organisational priorities. Occasional co-delivery of sessions alongside the Interim Head of Best Food Forward is expected.

Maintain oversight of the nutritional quality of programmes, resources and communications, ensuring all content remains evidence-based, accurate, relevant and appropriate for the intended audience.

Provide specialist nutrition advice and guidance across the organisation, supporting advocacy, dissemination and communication activities that promote evidence-based food education and public health approaches.

Commented [JP4]: Wouldn’t be traditional for a nutritionists, would, of course, for a dietitian.

Commented [JP5]: Is it more leading/ evolving this area?

Represent The School positively within relevant professional, public health and community networks, building and maintaining productive relationships with stakeholders and partner organisations.

Coordinate and support ongoing research activity, including collaborative projects with university partners and ethics committees, supporting the generation, interpretation and dissemination of evidence to strengthen organisational learning and impact.

Coordinate, supervise, and develop student, work experience, and volunteering placements, ensuring high-quality learning experiences and maintaining positive relationships with university partners.

Lead and manage designated reportees, fostering a proactive culture of excellence, continuous improvement and innovation across the School.

Prepare clear written and verbal reports for trustees in collaboration with the Interim Head of Best Food Forward and Executive Leadership Team, management meetings and external stakeholders, supporting informed decision-making and ongoing programme development.

Respond with flexibility and professionalism to changing priorities and emerging opportunities, contributing positively to the wider functioning of The School and its charitable mission.

Contribute, as a School of Artisan Food employee, to the day-to-day workings of The School as required, adopting a flexible and hands-on approach to support the successful delivery of courses, events, community engagement activities and wider charitable initiatives.
