Nursery Practitioner – Casual Bank Staff

RELATIONSHIPS
The  Nursery  Practitioner  will  carry  out  a  supportive  role  within  the  Nursery  team  working
alongside the Room Leaders and other Nursery Practitioners. At all times carrying out the
duties and responsibilities of the post in compliance with the Authorities Equal Opportunity
Policy

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•  To  work  under  the  guidance  and  supervision  of  the  Manager/Deputy  Manager  and/or

Senior Nursery Practitioners

•  To work closely in partnership with Nursery Practitioners in the team
•  To  be  actively  involved  in  the  planning,  preparation  and  evaluation  of  the  EYFS
curriculum and to supervise the activities in progress helping the children to develop to
their full potential

•  To work closely with the other members of the team in the general care and maintenance

of the nursery building and equipment

•  To work with the staff in the observation and recording of the development of children’s

individual progress

•  To play a part in the training of childcare students and students from the local community
•  To  welcome  and  encourage  parents’  involvement  in  their  child’s  development  and

develop close links with home and school

•  To help provide a variety of curriculum activities, which create a stimulating atmosphere
where  the  children  are able  to  explore,  experiment  and make  discoveries  during  their
play within a safe setting

•  To be aware of and familiar with the school and Authority policies regarding curriculum,
pupils and staff. In particular, the  Nursery Practitioner should be informed about Child
Protection Procedures, Discipline Guidelines and Special Needs Policies as well as Aids
Awareness, Accident Procedures and Health and Safety issues. Copies of all necessary
documents are provided for staff

•  To  further  own  interest  and  development  with  new  ideas  by  attending  staff  meetings,

courses and joining in service training

•  To be involved in any other duties, which may, from time to time, reasonably be required

within the general level of responsibility of the post

•  To undertake mandatory safeguarding and prevent training

PERSON SPECIFICATION
•  To work effectively as part of a team.
•  To  be  an  effective  communicator  with  children,  parents  and  staff,  including  taking

responsibility for keeping abreast of current practice within the Nursery

•  To work in collaboration with other staff through staff meetings and whole school Inset
•  To  be  effective  in  all  written  communication  including  maintaining  records,  writing

observations and contributing to report writing

•  To demonstrate initiative in planning to support development of whole child
•  To embrace the whole school ethos of ‘learning for all’ and be keen to develop own skills

and knowledge.

•  To demonstrate a positive attitude including, the ability to problem solve.

•  To  enjoy  working  with  young  children,  providing  stimulating  activities  to  further  their

learning

•  To have knowledge of safeguarding in respect to young children and be keen to undergo

further training
