The College

New College is a constituent college of The University of Oxford, and a registered charity. It was founded in 1379 by William of Wykeham, then Bishop of Winchester, as The College of St Mary of Winchester in Oxford. It very soon became known as New College to distinguish it from an earlier Oxford college (Oriel, founded 1326) also dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

New College is one of the university's largest colleges, supporting a diverse academic community with a substantial number of fellows, lecturers, and staff dedicated to teaching and research. The College is also currently home to approx. 421 Undergraduate and 368 Graduate students.

The college is open to the public throughout the year and has been used as a backdrop for various films and TV series, making it a popular choice for tourists.

Further information about the college can be found on our website, https://www.new.ox.ac.uk.
