Music & Drama Teacher (Prep School) Job Description & Person Specification September 2026 Responsible to: Head of Prep Line manages: N/A Job Overview The post holder will deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons in both Drama and Music, fostering confidence, creativity, and performance skills in all pupils. They will contribute to the wider life of the school through productions, assemblies, concerts, and co-curricular activities, ensuring that performing arts remain a central and celebrated part of the Prep experience. Duties and Responsibilities: Keys Skills & Knowledge: Deliver high quality, engaging lessons in Drama and Music across the Prep School. Contribute to the development and review of schemes of work, ensuring progression, creativity and alignment with departmental expectations Plan and deliver lessons that cater for a range of abilities, providing appropriate challenge and support. Maintain high standards of behaviour, discipline, safety, well-being and academic progress within all teaching groups. Ensure that pupils’ work and performance reflect the expectations of the School. Assess pupil progress through regular marking, observation and feedback. Lead or support extra-curricular activities in Drama and Music or the wider performing arts. Play the piano competently and lead informal concerts. Attend Parents’ Evenings and key school events such as Open Day, productions, the Carol Service and concerts. Assist with trips and events as directed by the Head of Prep. Maintain effective and professional communication with parents and staff. A qualified Music specialist and Drama practitioner with a strong record of effective teaching in this age range. Demonstrates high-quality teaching-skills and the ability to create a positive, stimulating learning environment. Able to build strong rapport with pupils, motivating children with a range of abilities. Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Proven ability to implement programmes that enhance pupils’ learning and progress. Skilled in assessment and reporting, providing clear and constructive feedback to pupils and parents. Probationary Period This role is subject to a probationary period of 12 months from the start of employment, and may be extended at the School’s discretion.
