Marnhull Community Choir is seeking a new Music Director for September 2026
Marnhull Community Choir is at a crossroads in its short life as they look to recruit a new Music Director starting September 2026, following the departure of their current director, who is leaving due to personal family reasons. We are looking for a skilled, enthusiastic and motivating conductor to continue the development of the choir.
Marnhull Community Choir is an un-auditioned mixed choir of c.50 singers drawn from Marnhull village and the surrounding area. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings in the Marnhull Village Hall and perform primarily in the hall or local church. The repertoire includes music from many different genres, including light classical, folk, traditional, country, jazz and show tunes.
As the choir looks to the future, they want to continue with the development of both the type of music sung, and the development of the more experienced singers, together with support for the less experienced, but equally enthusiastic members.
Members join for a variety of reasons. They might want to continue their love of singing, challenge themselves, or try something they have always wanted to do, or take up again since school days. Whatever the reason, everyone bonds together as a choir and supports each other within this key community group in the village, that offers friendship and support. About half the members do not read music and have never sung in a choir before, but it doesn’t stop them enjoying themselves.
The choir perform a minimum of two concerts per year and an informal Cheese, Wine and Song evening with 10 weekly rehearsals during term time from September to June. Conductor’s fees £ 37.50 per hour, on the basis of 30 rehearsals and 3 concerts per year, in addition there is a termly admin fee of £100.00 to cover attendance at Committee meetings and preparation of concert programs and Newsletter. Fees are reviewed annually.
Applications are invited for this post by midnight 8th April 2026.
