28-05-2026Applications are invited for two permanent, part time (15 hours per week) Muti Tasked Facilities Operatives working within the Facilities Section of Bangor University.
Duties include cleaning, portering, litter picking, waste removal and meeting room set-ups, using appropriate equipment and PPE.
Candidates should hold a BICSc Licence to Practice Card or a willingness to work towards achieving this within an agreed timeframe.
Candidates should have a basic level of literacy with an ability to understand and follow both verbal and written instruction and procedures and to communicate in Welsh or English. Successful candidates must be sufficiently physically fit to undertake the specified duties and be willing to work flexibly as operationally required.
The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post.
The successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as possible.

Purpose of the Job
The post holder will provide a range of services across the University estate in residential accommodation and in university buildings to maintain appropriate facilities for students, staff and visitors.
Under the supervision of the Facilities Shift Leader, undertake a range of general duties including cleaning, portering, litter picking, waste removal and meeting room set-ups, using appropriate equipment and PPE.
The role holder may also be required to undertake a range of specialist services such as sorting and distributing mail, the franking of outgoing mail, liaison with couriers and receipts and distribution of goods, specialist cleaning and the collection and processing of confidential waste for destruction.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
On a day to day, operational basis the post-holder will be expected to assess the local service requirements by understanding the specific area of work and the service expectation but also, on occasions, by liaising with the customer to determine appropriate scheduling. The post-holder will engage with members of their team daily to ensure any operational issues are dealt with or escalated to the Shift Leader The post-holder will provide support to the team and its members
- The post-holder will use handheld technology / tablets to receive jobs and to update on work progress and completion.
- The post-holder may be required to undertake some specialist cleaning duties, such as carpet cleaning, power-hosing, high level window cleaning. In these circumstances appropriate training, safe systems of work and PPE will be provided.
- The post-holder may be required to undertake some general maintenance duties (such as fixing toilet seats, fixing door locks). In these circumstances appropriate training, safe systems of work and PPE will be provided.
- The post-holder may be required to support the Security Section on occasions (for example, to undertake car park duties for events, to act as fire marshals or access / cordon guards in emergencies). Appropriate training, safe systems of work and PPE will be provided for these situations.
- The post-holder will regularly liaise with their line manager to ensure the service operates as cohesively and as productively as possible, that issues are aired and shared and that team members are supported appropriately.
- The post holder will be required to work across the university estate in a range of areas. Locations of work will be dependent on operational requirements and service requests.
- There are a range of regular fixed shifts available from a Monday to Friday early morning shift through to a weekend shift. However, all post holders will be required to work on some key weekends (pre-scheduled) over the course of the year (such as student residential clean-down).
- The post holder will be expected to use trolleys to transport items, to operate a tail-lift mechanism on a vehicle and also to use a range of floor maintenance equipment, such as vacuums, carpet cleaners, polishers and scrubber/dryers.
- Cleaning materials, cleaning products and COSSH information will be provided
- The post-holder will be expected to report any maintenance requirements or additional specialist cleaning requirements to their shift leader.
- The post holder will be expected to participate in a series of toolbox talks and scheduled training, including training to achieve BICSc modules.
- The post-holder will be expected to deal politely and professionally with other staff, students and visitors and will be expected to deliver and promote a good standard of customer service at all times
- The post-holder will be expected to support and cover for staff in other areas of Property and Campus Services as necessary.

Qualifications/Training
Essential
- BICSc Licence to Practice Cardor a willingness to work towards achieving this within an agreed timeframe.

- Full driving licence in order to drive University vehicles across the campus.
Experience/Knowledge

- Experience of:
- Using cleaning chemicals, equipment and cleaning methods.
- Lifting and handling heavy and awkward items.
- Working in a customer focused environment and able to demonstrate an emphasis on providing a quality service.
- Using industrial cleaning equipment.
- An understanding of good customer care and quality service.
- An understanding of the need for safe working practices with the ability to work in accordance with good health and safety and manual handling practices.
