Volunteers are the beating heart and soul
of our much-loved living museum.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway offers a
wide range of experiences for those who love
history, trains, and a unique experience.
Volunteering presents you with the
opportunity to meet new people from all
walks of life. You’ll gain worthwhile skills, and
this can result in a real sense of achievement.
Around 1000 volunteers work in various roles
across the NYMR and they all bring something
unique with them.

This is not a rostered role.

WHERE YOU VOLUNTEER:
Motive Power Department Shed at
Grosmont Station (YO22 5QE).

TIME COMMITMENT:
We would warmly welcome volunteers who
can offer their time across multiple days. We’re
grateful for any time you’re able to give,
whether on a regular or ad-hoc basis and hope
you’ll consider joining our growing team of
dedicated volunteers.

UNIFORM & EQUIPMENT:
All our volunteers dress smartly and appropriately
to the role they undertake. All equipment will be
made available.

OVERVIEW OF MOTIVE POWER DEPARTMENT
ADMINISTRATOR ROLE

An exciting opportunity to work at the heart of
the Motive Power Department, the engine room
that keeps our trains running. Be involved in all
the administration of keeping the daily and
archived information up to date and help
maintain all the information required to do this.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

• assist with moving our legacy records from paper
  onto SharePoint
• assisting with purchase ordering
• research for engineering projects
• date tracking for locomotives
• competency (Hops) record keeping and date
  tracking
• meeting planning
• answering calls and replying to emails
• general office tasks
• attend MPD staff meetings (one a month when
  possible)
• helping with engineering planning (Gantt charts
  or others)
• engineering drawing printing and storage
• form designing for internal documentation and
record keeping

DESIRABLE SKILLS

• computer literate (Excel and word)
• work with volunteers and paid staff
• good attention to detail.

TRAINING

All training will be provided to support you in this
role. You’ll receive training from an experienced
member of the team. You will be guided through
using SharePoint and HOPs.
