About the role

This role is only open to internal candidates and volunteers.

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is one of the UK’s fastest growing nature conservation organisations and seeks to appoint two Monitoring & Research Assistants on a fixed term basis to September 2027.

This role offers a fantastic chance to gain hands-on experience in peatland restoration, ecological monitoring, and environmental education, while contributing to vital conservation work.

You will support the Peat Team across a broad range of activities, including collecting monitoring data, surveying damaged peatlands, monitoring restoration work, and assisting with communications, teaching, and administrative tasks.

On the research and data side, you'll support our monitoring programme through water table measurements, vegetation surveys, and invertebrate monitoring, while assisting with field research, trial plots, UAV surveys, and volunteer task days. Within peatland restoration, you'll carry out field surveys to assess condition and restoration needs, help prepare for site work (vehicle checks, risk assessments, equipment checks), support the team in checking capital works, and monitor restoration outcomes. You'll also assist Project Officers with GIS digitisation and map production, support communications activities, and community engagement events, and help prepare materials and facilitate our external training programme.

How to apply:

Please submit an up-to-date CV and supporting statement (max 2 pages) explaining how you meet the person specification for the role, highlighting your relevant skills, experience, achievements, and motivation for applying. Please be aware that if you only submit a CV, your application may not be considered.

Please DO NOT include any personal details (name, address etc) on your supporting statement.

Closing date: 20th September at midnight

Interview date: 1st October 2026

Please note that applications received after the closing deadline may not be considered. The Trust regrets that it is unable to give feedback on unsuccessful applications.
